Hi list and Sven :) Iâd like to load some additional packages about Zinc without human intervention If I use this: Gofer it smalltalkhubUser: 'Pharo' project: 'MetaRepoForPharo30'; package: 'ConfigurationOfZincHTTPComponents'; load. (Smalltalk at:#ConfigurationOfZincHTTPComponents) load. ((Smalltalk at:#ConfigurationOfZincHTTPComponents) project version: #stable) load: #('REST' 'SSO' 'WebSocket' 'Zodiac'). I do get an UI asking for merge or to confirm load What am I doing wrong to make it automation friendly? sebastian o/

file name case sensitivity

Hi All, being a control freak I always enable case sensitivity on my Macs. The Mac OS X file system has optional case sensitivity, insensitive by default. I once got burned with a check-out where one directory overwrite another and chose sensitivity from then on. This has caused a few problems over the years, including a Flash update that failed. No matter. Squeak has FileDirectory class>>isCaseSensitive answer a hard-coded boolean. Not good. I see this from stackoverflow<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/430256/how-do-i-determine-whether-the-fi…> : "Keep in mind that you might have multiple file systems with different casing rules. For example, the root filesystem could be case-sensitive, but you can have a case-insensitive filesystem (e.g. an USB stick with a FAT filesystem on it) mounted somewhere. So if you do such checks, make sure that you make them in the directory that you are going to access. Also, what if the user copies the data from say a case-sensitive to a case-insensitive file system? If you have files that differ only by case, one of them will overwrite the other, causing data loss. When copying in the other direction, you might also run into problems, for example, if file A contains a reference to file "b", but the file is actually named "B". This works on the original case-insensitive file system, but not on the case-sensitive system. Thus I would suggest that you avoid depending on whether the file system is case-sensitive or not if you can. Do not generate file names that differ only by case, use the standard file picker dialogs, be prepared that the case might change, etc." Luckily this is only tested in a couple of places. Most of the time the system resolves names by going through primDirectoryEntryFor: which leaves it up to the individual file system to decide (and hence get the answer right). I wonder what does FileSystem do about this? -- best, Eliot

[ANN] Phratch 3.0 released

Phratch 3.0 is out of the box, good news ! Phratch 3.0 is cleaner, faster and more stable. Phratch 3.0 is on top of Pharo 3.0 Thanks to the 30 students of Ecole des Mines de Douai, who use Phratch + Jetstorm, we improved a lot the stability and the rapidity of phratch. Now, we can say that it is usable. There is no new feature in phratch3.0. It is a release for usability. Only one big change: we know that sound does not work on each platform, so we decided to push sound features in an add-on. This makes us thinking about modularity for the next release. Letâs go for phratch4.0 ! Some new things arrived also on the website: new font style, section goodies. In the goodies section, you can support us by buying goodies, or just with a donation. A last thing: Phratch begin to work on RaspberryPi, thanks to JB Arnaud for the VM. As NativeBoost is not yet implemented, some features do not work. For example, when launching phratch on RPi, there is a NativeBoost error due to a file access. There is a lot of things to do with phratch, you are welcome to contribute ! Font problem: the come back

Hi! I am experiencing problem with the font using Athens. Am I the only one? After using a fresh image, the problem appears after a short while. Hi, I've recorded a screencast for Pharo 3.0. Could some of you review the english subtitles ? Project is here: https://github.com/lolgzs/pharo-picasa-screencast , subtitles in picasa_pharo3.en.srt. It's a simple text format, but you can use tools like KDE subtitle composer or Jubler to edit it. You can either send me fix by mail or make merge requests on github (easier for me :). Next the idea is to have subtitles translated into several languages, help appreciated. And if you have courage and time :), it would be nice to have voice recorded (my spoken english sounds, well, ... ). The screencast may be published on new Pharo website for people to get started. [ANN] DBXTalk CI available

Hi! As I've seen lately too much movement and questions I couldn't answer about dbxtalk like "does it work?" "does it load?" "what is the status?" and answering them is a bit difficult because it depends on platform, database, pharo version, etc... I started a while ago to setup a CI server at Inria for it: https://ci.inria.fr/dbxtalk/ As you will see, I set up jobs for: - the opendbx library - the dbxtalk bindings to the opendbx library - glorp - the native postgresv2 driver [1] - the native mysql protocol from [2] And I'm testing them only in *Pharo3 *and for the following databases: - sqlite3 - mysql (version 5) - oracle - postgres My plan was to release as soon as I had windows support, but right now I cannot create new slaves for it :). So... this includes *only linux CI support.* Note aside, you'll find the scripts that the jobs use here [3] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- So... For those that were asking if DBXTalk is working, it is :). But also, you'll see not all tests are green: That's probably because of some changes between pharo2 and pharo3. I didn't dive into them nor wanted to fix them until I had the CI jobs (and so, the pleasure to make the build green ;)). These are the next steps: - add tests to test the startup (that looks a bit buggy now) - Fix the not working tests - Make the native Mysql and Postgres drivers polymorphic with the OpenDBX one (and so, we can (a) reuse all tests for all drivers and (b) have glorp for free for them and others that you could imagine) - Add windows slave (that will take some time, configuring the databases, getting everything ready to compile... etc...) Of course, if you want to contribute either to fix the jobs, or to configure new stuff, you're welcome! Application development - import image and mark it up with vector graphics and create PDF

Hi, What is involved in creating an application in Pharo, part of would which do the following: 1) Copy an image (ex: jpg) into a a window area. 2) Allow the user to add basic shapes on top of the image - square, circle, with text inside the shape. 3) Save this and generate a PDF. There is business domain logic surrounding this. Regards, Reg
