Getting a user input string using Morphs

Hi ! I am new to Pharo and am currently working on making an Offline Text Search Application. I plan to use Morphs to make a nice GUI. Initially, I had thought of using /TextMorphForEditView/ to get an input string from the user, but I feel this is not giving the desired functionality. Would be great if anyone could suggest a way to get input string from the user in the same window using an 'input text box' interface element. Minimal delay in Pharo...

Hi all, anybody knows if, when doing something like: (Delay forMilliseconds: n) wait It is possible for the Delay to return immediately if n is small enough or do we have a guaranteed behavior of at least a 'yield' equivalent? I'm looking into active polling for parallel stuff and I noticed that a busy loop with Processor yield may result in more or less locking the vm since it only gives scheduling to processes which have a higher or equal priority, so this is why I'm looking into using Delay wait instead. But I'd like the delay to be as short as possible for performance reason while allowing lower priority processes a chance to run. Thanks, Thierry

Styling UI using Spec

New Tool: Catalog Browser in Pharo 5.0

Hi, maybe you already noticed. The latest update for Pharo 5 which is 50103 (see [1]). includes a new tool called "Catalog Browser". Where to go =========== You will find it under "Tools" -> "Catalog Browser" and it will display the configs together with the catalog metadata like project description. The code is managed with a configuration similar to what we have for a few other packages/projects. The tool was written by Esteban Lorenzano with small improvements like spotter integration from my side. Feel free to contribute more features. The repository can be found on SmalltalkHub [2]. This new tool basically gives you access to all available configurations aggregated at [3]. You can use a small UI to search and load the configs (see world menu -> "Tools" -> "Catalog Browser". But you can also use Spotter to load a config. Example on how to load ScriptManager config: ============================================ - open Spotter (SHIFT + ENTER on Windows, ...) - type in "Script" and you will find a spotter category "Catalog Projects" with "ScriptManager" in it - just hit enter and the config is loaded Same for all others, so try with "Seaside", "MongoTalk", ... In the short/mid-term this new tool should replace the existing config browser as it gives more informations about the projects. What to do next: ================ - give feedback - we should update all our configs with catalog descriptions - it would be nice if the spotter integration would include also a preview of the project description - ... If you want to contribute just tell Esteban so he can add you to the project. Pratt Parsers for PetitParser

Hello Pharoers and Moosers, I did a Pratt parser extension for PetitParser. A Pratt parser (a.k.a top-down operator precedence parser) handles left-recursion and operator precedence. It handles grouping, prefix, postfix, infix (right- or left-associative) and "multifixâ operators (e.g. "if ... then ... else ...", "... ? ... : ...", Smalltalk keyword messages). Normally Pratt Parsing needs a tokenization phase but here tokenization is done on the fly with other PP parsers. Apart from tokenization, no backtracking is needed so parsing is quite fast (approximatively 2 times faster than PPExpressionParser). Here is an exemple of a calculator: parser := PPPrattParser new. The results given by furthestFailure were not very meaningful in my case (the same is true for PPExpressionParser btw). But I guess it was introduced because it gives good results in other cases. So would it be possible to change this behavior to let the parser decide if it returns the furthestFailure or the original failure? Cheers, Camille

Fuel and graph update

Hi, I want to use Fuel to persist a graph in file. The classic use case is "modify some part of the model and persist immediately". Now, it is not really efficient to re-serialize the whole graph each time, and I am wondering how you are approaching this particular point when using Fuel as your persistence back-end. For example, various ideas coming to my mind: - Is it possible to update some part of an already serialized graph? - Should the graph be cut to pieces and serialized in several files? - Or is Fuel fast enough to just re-serialize the whole graph? NativeBoost pointer and "+"

Hello everyone, I have a small question about NativeBoost : How does the "+" operator when applied to a pointer translates into NativeBoost code ? To give a bit of context, what I want to do is to reallocate some non-contiguous bytes in memory to a buffer. Basically, I have an array of integers in a buffer and I want to copy some chunks of it in another buffer. The chunks are always the same size and the offset between each chunk is always the same too. Because a bit of actual code is easier to understand here is what I'd like to do in Pharo : ... int i, j; int *data = malloc(1000*sizeof(int)); int *newData = malloc(50*sizeof(int)); // Allocate initial data for (i = 0 ; i < 1000, i++) { data[i] = i; } //Copy desired chunks into new buffer for (i = 0; i < 5; i++ ) { memcpy( newData + j*10, data + 200 + j*30, 10*sizeof(int)); j++; } free(data); ... Here basically I'll get in my buffer chunks of 10 integers starting at 200 with an offset of 30 between chunks, and this 5 times. (200 201 202 ... 208 209 230 231 ... 238 239 260 ... 328 329). I am okay with the malloc, memcpy and free but I don't know how to handle the "+" operator in my memcpy function. Thank you, Matthieu
