Dear Colleagues and Friends, We are happy to announce we will organize a CampSmalltalk about the Roassal visualization engine, on _Sunday 12 July_. As far as we have seen, the interests are multiple. Here is a list of topics we will happy to work on: - Port of Roassal on VisualWorks - Using Roassal on Gemstone - HTML/JavaScript export - Improving Grapher, our charting library If you wish to participate, get in touch with us. case-insensitive regexp

Hi, Some regular expression engines include support for /i flag that makes the regexp case-insensitive. In Pharo, regexp matcher can be setup to be case-insensitive (e.g. 'mypattern' asRegexIgnoringCase). But once a matcher is setup as case-senstive, can we provide a pattern to make its search case-insensitive using the /i (or a similar flag) in Pharo? regards. usman

Timezone offset in Date, why?

I'm debugging the PostgresV3 driver for GLORP, and among other test failures, there is a kind that particularly bugs me: two identical dates do not match, the reason? The internal "start" of aDate (Timespan) is a DateAndTime, and as such has a timezone offset. Is this conceptually right? Esteban A. Maringolo

Thanks for the pointers. I've got it working in Pharo 4 but had to change this method as I was getting a database session connection error. It appears to be losing the Glorp session, so I changed this class method thus: RedditDatabaseResource login>> "^ DefaultLogin ifNil: [ DefaultLogin := self createLogin ]" ^ DefaultLogin := self createLogin.

Detecting image (pharo process) hang?

I am making a little watchdog (in C++) for spawning forked pharo image processes and detecting when they crash (for ex, memory exhausted and/or killed) so it can restart the image. It works, but for now I have only 1 remaining thing: How can I detect from outside, when pharo process is hanged and not responsive? I am thinking something like sending SIGUSR1 (which should output a backtrace) and if nothing is produced, then kill the pid. The problem is that when I do so, then image is completelly unresponsive (all is blank and not responsive to any event, click and so). Is there anything better?

RWView signalUpdate

Hi, I noticed that with the recent changes that you made the view isn't updating anymore so I would like to update it by myself. I saw that in RWView there is the method called signalUpdate which is supposed to update the view but when I call it actually nothing happens. The situation that I have when I use it: - I have some objects in gray color displayed in my view. - I change the color and update the element. At this point the view doesn't update automatically so they stay gray even though I changed the color - I call signalUpdate on my view but nothing refreshes, the objects stay gray. At first I thought the problem was that the instance variable signalUpdateCallback was not initialised since in the initialisation is set to be nothing. But then I noticed it is actually initialised in RWViewWindow so that should be fine. I also have to say that my focus is not on the window that displays my objects but on another window in the same pharo image (just beside the window that contains the objects). Might that be the problem? Even though I have this situation I really would like to update the view even though the focus is not on that window. Any idea on how to make it work? Thanks Nicolas. P.S. any news on the possibility to distinguish different buttons interactions (i.e. distinguish left from right click of the mouse)?

PUngLite can't query large database

Hi I've managed to create a large database, with PUnqLite, that is 562.1MB. I can't seem to query it though. I've set fetchBufferSize: (1024*1024*1023). I've set SmalltalkImage current vm extraVMMemory: (1024*1024*1023). I've played around in the info.plist setting the SqueakMaxHeapSize to ridiculous things. But I keep getting either out of memory or PqFetchError (probably because it can't fit the whole stream into the image?). This is why I was asking about the JX9 query and running a query like that to only return to the image with results I want. Any suggestions on how I can handle this?
