Hi - Is there a standard library access and make calculations from the distributions mentioned in the subject of this email? I'm interested in random draws from those distributions. I haven't found anything looking in the image or on squeaksource. Thanks Paul

We welcome contributions on all aspects, theoretical as well as practical, of Smalltalk-related topics. There are two possible kinds of submissions, which must be in ACM SIGPLAN style: * Research papers (up to 10 pages). [GSoC] Problems, Students bio and projects without mentor

Hi everybody. I hope everybody is fine. As you may have noticed, the ESUG GSoC has been quite busy the last weeks. Students started to register in the website, discuss with mentors, etc... A little problem that we saw few times: when you register (as a student or mentor) you should receive a confirmation email. I don't know why but some people reported this mail was filtered in the spam folder. So, if you are mentor or student and didn't receive a confirmation email, please check you spam folder. Students, when you edit your profile there is a tab called "Biography". Please, take the time to complete that. There are multiple students per project and that may help the mentor to choose the student. Another problem is that we have two projects without mentors. 1. Native windows for Squeak and Pharo http://gsoc2010.esug.org/projects/native-windows 2. OpenSSL Smalltalk wrapper http://gsoc2010.esug.org/projects/openssl Fortunately no student yet expressed interest on any of them. using weak collections

Hello again: I need to create an object's registry that keeps certain objects in a dictionary and a second registry that keeps only objects currently in the first registry so i thought it was a good idea to user IdentityDictionary and WeakIdentityKeyDictionary so when the any object in the first registry is removed then the second registry remove's it too. Problem is that when i try to test my code, the second assertion fails. Is there anything wrong with my test or weak collections are not suppose to work like that? Dear Students, Now it is your turn! You will have to register in our website, put there some information, show interest for the projects and contact the project mentors. After the registration step you will get all the mentors information in order to contact them. By pressing the button on the project, you will show your interest. This is not something formal yet. Our mentors will vote for the most interesting projects and in the middle of the voting Google will tell us, how many projects will actually be funded. Voting will happen in April, with final results expected at the end of April. At that time you will finally know if you are accepted or not. Of course, there can be many students interested per project. This means that interest for this project is high, but on the other side a chance that you will be chosen is lower. It is up to you to convince a mentor that you are the best! Note also that the Ideas page is deprecated. On ideas page just the project ideas were collected. Now, we are preparing the real projects. So, please from now on always refer to this link for the projects: http://gsoc2010.esug.org/projects So, the initial steps are: 1. Hello everyone I've just started in the Smalltalk world and recently moved to Pharo after trying a little Squeak (mostly e-Toys). I want to promote the use of Smalltalk solutions but there seems to be no books on the subject besides Squeak and Pharo by Example. Can anyone point me to any recent book about Smalltalk?
