Hi I read the chapter on validation of the mentoring course book of andres valloud. http://www.lulu.com/fr/fr/shop/andres-valloud/a-mentoring-course-on-smallta… And I love this extension of SUnit. I loved the idea when I saw it for the first time at Lugano (presentation of Leandro Caniglia). I encourage everybody to read it. Now does anybody implemented in Pharo the SUnit extension? I would like to play with it and eventually write a chapter on it for the next book. The idea is so good. Stef

To Camillo Bruni: I'm not using any slot image (I only looked over the paper). According to the Pharo book, 'pvt' should be implemented in the mainstream image. To Marcus Denker: There are actually several methods in the image with the 'pvt' prefix. Please update the doc (Pharo book) to remove talking about 'pvt'. It would have saved me a little headache :)

How do I save contents of Workspace into a collection?

Hi guys, My images are gathering a number of Workspaces whose contents I don't want to delete. I want to create a collection of Workspace contents along this defintion: Description Date Category Content (the actual text in the Workspace). In the final version I would like to be able to select a workspace and simply click a button or a menu item and get a dialog where I can enter the Description, Category and Date with the Workspace contents automatically captured into a text box. Copying and pasting the contents would be okay to start with. Filing it out would be another aspect later. What kind of array would best suited to the task? There is quite a number of them depicted here: http://www.jmcsweeney.co.uk/computing/m206/collections_intro.php What could be the best way to go about it? For those who are curious I am experimenting with the original ideas of Smalltalk where a computer user would do everything in Smalltalk workspace/desktop. Slots

I notice that "Slots" are slated for addition in Pharo 3.0. Is there anywhere I can see which model of "slots" is being suggested? I'm not sure that slots, in the sense of Javascript, are a good idea generally and, in the broader context, I'm very unhappy with the idea of messing with Smalltalk's generally clean syntax by adding new language features. Could the desired effects be achieved by subclassing Behavour or somesuch high-level approach? -- Thomas Worthington

Group and member with Voyage

Hi all, Let's say I have a class Group and a class Member. aGroup has many members. and aMember can belong to many groups. What is the "proper" voyageDescription for those one to many relations? Should I do something extra? Everytime I add a member to the group, both the member and the group get their references updated. Now when I add a member to a group and save it, I also save the member. Is there another way to avoid this? Any recommended practice for this? Next level question: What if it gets composite? it is... a Group has other Groups as members :) Regards! Esteban A. Maringolo

Hi, everyone! I have been working on a tutorial 'how to make a game using smalltalk' and developed this game ( Laser Game ) on Squeak, as it is an example of development on Squeak. voyage/mongo randomly wrong OIDs

Hi, I have a strange problem and before searching for more hours, I want to ask, if this problem is known. If not, I will proceed by myself ;-) Background: I write currencies and countries into mongo with voyage. For database creation, first I create all currencies and countries of the world in the image. One Country has N currencies and one Currency has N countries. After creating the model objects in the image, I save them to mongo with voyage then. Problem: Here something strange happens. SOMETIMES, the OID to the Currencies collection is wrong! It is the OID of the object itself (the country). Please see the example of UnitedArabEmirates below to understand what I mean. The OID of the country UAE is the same as the pointer to the currency(!). But in the model objects in my image, the inst var currencies was NOT pointing to the country itself but to the currency. { "#version": NumberInt(466896549), "_id": ObjectId("a5466c0b0000000000000000"), "countryName": "labelCountryUnitedArabEmirates", "currencies": { "0": { "#collection": "Currencies", "__id": ObjectId("a5466c0b0000000000000000") } }, "iso3166": "ARE" } this is an example of a country which is correct. { "#version": NumberInt(228627064), "_id": ObjectId("b7956c0b0000000000000000"), "countryName": "labelCountryArgentina", "currencies": { "0": { "#collection": "Currencies", "__id": ObjectId("77926c0b0000000000000000") } }, "iso3166": "ARG" } The important point is: this happens randomly. I take the one fresh loaded image, create the objects into the database and close the image without saving. The next time, other countries are wrong. If I delete the wrong objects from the database and re-create them, they are correct. I was trying to save the objects with delays but this did noch change anyting. I want to find out, what the reason for that is and ask you if you had similar problems or if this is a known bug.... any hint appreciated.
