To Camillo Bruni: I'm not using any slot image (I only looked over the paper). According to the Pharo book, 'pvt' should be implemented in the mainstream image. To Marcus Denker: There are actually several methods in the image with the 'pvt' prefix. Please update the doc (Pharo book) to remove talking about 'pvt'. It would have saved me a little headache :)

How do I save contents of Workspace into a collection?

Hi guys, My images are gathering a number of Workspaces whose contents I don't want to delete. I want to create a collection of Workspace contents along this defintion: Description Date Category Content (the actual text in the Workspace). In the final version I would like to be able to select a workspace and simply click a button or a menu item and get a dialog where I can enter the Description, Category and Date with the Workspace contents automatically captured into a text box. Copying and pasting the contents would be okay to start with. Filing it out would be another aspect later. What kind of array would best suited to the task? There is quite a number of them depicted here: http://www.jmcsweeney.co.uk/computing/m206/collections_intro.php What could be the best way to go about it? For those who are curious I am experimenting with the original ideas of Smalltalk where a computer user would do everything in Smalltalk workspace/desktop. Slots

I notice that "Slots" are slated for addition in Pharo 3.0. Is there anywhere I can see which model of "slots" is being suggested? I'm not sure that slots, in the sense of Javascript, are a good idea generally and, in the broader context, I'm very unhappy with the idea of messing with Smalltalk's generally clean syntax by adding new language features. Could the desired effects be achieved by subclassing Behavour or somesuch high-level approach? -- Thomas Worthington

Postmark email library

Hi guys, I've made a simple wrapper around the Postmark API. It lets you send emails without dealing with a SMTP server. Package browser?

I am attempting to do the Pharo by Example book, but a package browser (which is used in the examples) is not in the 1.1.1 or 1.2 image. Should I still use categories? If I create a package in Monticello browser I am not able to add classes or anything (not as far as I could see). Just starting out using Pharo, so apologies if these questions are already answered elsewhere.

And, I was really quite optimistic about cloud foundry when it first came out. I particularly like the way you can have a local micro cloud, and then transition to the hosted cloud. My only disappointment was that VMware are not - seemingly - going to offer gemstone as an option on cloudfoundry.com. Building on what Janko said, I think it is really important to join the cloud 'wave'. The question is how might we - collectively - make this happen? I am perfectly happy to go with cloud foundry, or open shift, or any other option if more knowledgeable people can show that X is the way to go. My only requirement is that I don't want to deal with anyone lower than pharo. All OS patches need to be done automagically by the hosting provider. I think cloudfoundry.com and open shift do that, but my understanding of cloudfoundry.org is that this is a 'roll it yourself' solution. Obviously, that would require someone to step up and do that for us. My preference would be for us to create a suitably configured module for one of e platforms, and we can then start getting experience with it. Stephane, is this something that the consortium might take a lead on? My company is happy to pay some of the costs, if this will help. Cheer Andy

Serializing an error (Fuel)

Hi list, Until recently, we've been dealing with all errors in our Iliad application by having the Iliad error handler serialize them and send us an email referring to the file. This way, debugging was as easy as: *GRPlatform current openDebuggerOn: (FLMaterializer materializeFromFileNamed: 'errorReports/1366980822.obj'). * But recently this has stopped working, and I've just found out I can't even serialize simple errors. Something like: *[ 3 / 0 ] on: Error do: [ :error | FLSerializer serialize: error toFileNamed: 'error.obj' ] * brings out a debugger saying I need FuelMetalevel to fully serialize methods (which is installed, by the way). The error reads: *FLNotInstalledMethod: Serialization error. DoIt can not be serialized as global because it is not installed. You need FuelMetalevel to fully serialize methods. See the documentation.* I'm not sure whether one thing is related to the other... any ideas? -- Bernat Romagosa.

Want to connect two morphs with a line.

Hi All, I want to connect two morphs with a line for a UML editor application I'm working on. I want to show the line being created as the user moves the mouse from the source morph to the target morph. Once the mouse is over the target morph and the mouse released, the line should be created. Can someone explain how I would go about doing this. Which events would I need to capture, etc. Thanks.

CommandShell - linux - missing directory in path

Hi all, as far as I know, NativeBoost does not yet allow starting external programs on linux, so I'm trying to use CommandShell. CommandShell new open; command: 'ls -l' . And I get an error: DirectoryDoesNotExist: Path / 'usr' / 'local' / 'sbin' I must admit, that this directory is in $PATH, but is not available on disk. Is there a deeper reason to signal an error in this case, or should this be treated as a bug? (Pharo 2.0) Kind regards, Ingo
