Hi Eliot, My problem is not with the VM, my problem is with my own library that I connect to through FFI. I know where the libraries are ! I have tried to add them in /etc/ld.so.conf.d , that does not work. I have tried export LD_LIBRARY_PATH, but somehow it erases some libraries needed by pharo. I have done sudo ldconfig ... In fact I have one library that depends from another one. In FFI I call one method which calls another method in the other library. I have tried to create symbolics links in the directory â¦ I have checked that nm gives the right symbol with the right type .. So I have no idea what to try now ! Pharo program examples

Hello again , let me ask a strange question for a beginner of pharo. Let the system be the system. hahaha " Are there examples of complete , simple programs for Pharo smalltalk 80 ? " Very simple ones for beginners ? A file archieve perhaps or so ? For example : a simple personal database a simple calculation program for any purposes s simple statistic program or so This could help for learning. Hans

Thank you Kion Alios ! As a beginner of smalltalk i have realized two things. 1. The main view in smalltalk language is on the " Programming System" ( functions of the Pharo system at all ) You could say : " Open the IDE - check the functions for many days : then start to write Objects with minimal code" 2. In other languages the main view is on the "Syntax and code structure only" ( the systems IDE is minimal styled ) You could say : " Open the IDE - check the function for one day : and start to write code for many days " My next aim is to write a simple program from a practical task. a storage program for items The only information are " what the worker in the company would do with the items ". Therfore i try to make a FLOW CHART with an additional software tool to see the whole Tasks in one view. Then i add the Object names and class names that are corresponding to that tasks ( same name as real ). I would see in practice if this flow chart is a good method for overview. ( Brainstorming - Flowchart ). I dont care of the many functions of the system at this beginning point. Just make ONE simple program , and compile it to an .exe to check on another PC. Regards Hans

Athens do not work on Image 40316+

Hello On image 40315 everything working. On image 40316-40320 (latest) parts of Athens do not work, tried by running Athens Tutorial and Roassal 2, which are both based on Athens. move a method

Good morning fellows , i want to move a method in a different class. Therefore i can see two options in the Package Browser. (context menue of method) 1. move to trait (e) 2. move to package. The option one is ok. But i only can see there the message : "New Trait" No existing classes and protocolls to choose. Normally i klick MOVE and then i type the location in with Classname>Protokollname Want to move it to an existing protocol from a class. How can i do that. Thanks. Hans

Athens do not work on Image 40316+

Hi Jan, your subject is a little bit misleading. I guess only the AthensTutorial is not working. Because in 40316 Athens is working (at least for me). Try AthensDemoMorph example to verify in a fresh image from http://files.pharo.org/ (or downloaded via PharoLauncher) without installing anything additionally into the image. What might be broken is the (external loadable) Athens Tutorial which maybe out of sync because of new changes in current 4.0 development stream. As long as Pharo 4.0 is not yet released external packages may work or be broken. Try them in Pharo 3.0 to compare. Bye T.

Clickable class side example and initialize methods in Pharo 4.0

One addition I implemented for Nautilus is that one can run examples directly in the browser just by clicking on class side example methods icons. See https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/13892/Example-methods-should-be-runnable-… for a picture. SO PLEASE: WHEN YOU PROVIDE EXAMPLES IN CLASSES PLEASE PUT THEM ON THE CLASS SIDE AND LET THE SELECTOR START WITH "example". This way people will easily see that it is an example and can run them. Additionally it would help to put them into a category like "examples". So be a good citized and provide not only class comments but also examples for others to study. Side note: ========== It is also possible to click on the icon of class side initialize methods so the class get reinitialized (after a confirmation to avoid false clicking). https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/13894/Class-side-initialize-methods-shoul… Both issues are already integrated.
