If your users are "Pharo" users then deploy to STHub, provide a load script (Gofer/Monticell) or add you goodie to the config browser by having a config in one of the Pharo Meta repositories. But I assume your question is more oriented to building "usual consumer" apps like Games, a business app, online app, ...: There is no definitive answer to your question. There are so many scenarios that could be applied to "build somenthing and deploying with Pharo" that there is no single answer/solution. It depends on what you need, who and where your users are. Some examples: ============== You could have a Pharo app similar to "http://www.drgeo.eu/" for desktop or Android, ... or a webapp like http://pharo.pharocloud.com, ... It depends on what you need. You can deploy as a Windows App, a Mac app, a linux app with our without ZeroConf, a web app that runs on Pharo Cloud or (like http://spesenfuchs.de) run on Amazon Cloud. You could deploy a Pharo GLASS environment, ... Usually there are two major steps that all these have in common: 1. Configuring the image to run the program - could be starting the webserver so the web app runs (usually done in Seaside, ...) - could be starting the window that you need (if you build a Pharo based window UI with Spec for instance as the "PharoLauncher" app does) - could mean to open a morph fullscreen (similar to what "Phratch" app does to deploy) - could mean to additionally throw out classes/packages out that you do not need to minimize the image ("stripping an image") or load only the packages you need on an already minimal image ("bottom up approach") In any case typically the program is already prepared to run in a saved image, so when the saved image is opened by the end user it can be cunsumed/used 2. Deploy and distribute - for a webapp one can copy the image to Pharocloud or install you own server with Pharo and Apache or Nginx - could mean to just copy the OS specific virtual machine (VM) + image to a desktop machine (or as ZIP), (on Windows adopt the Pharo.ini to run this specific image) - provide a simple bash script so the packages are downloaded for a unix like scenario (following ZeroConf) - provide a PPA/DPKG like distribution as Pharo does for Ubuntu http://pharo.org/download - could mean to have a "one click" similar to the "Pharo one click" with all the virtual machines and the image (so it runs portable on different operating systems), this is usefull for memory stick like deployment (see the "portable" ZIPs in http://files.pharo.org/platform/) - could mean you build a custom VM with an own icon - for instance for a Windows.exe, optional own plugins and an own setup/installer like Pharo Launcher provides (or use the Pharo.exe with Reshacker to exchange the icon) Some pointers: LOCAL INSTALLABLE APP ===================== look at PharoLauncher http://www.smalltalkhub.com/#!/~Pharo/PharoLauncher It even comes with a setup (using NSIS installer) or Phratch (http://phratch.com/) You can download them for end user or install them in Pharo. Hello programmers , as a beginner of pharo i have the following question. I suppose that you are lying under the tables for laughing flash !! hahaha To familiarize with the coding - saving - starting in general of smalltalk , may i ask you to make a short : step by step guide , to create a program that shows : " Hello World ". a pharo image self starting program " hello world" . ______________________________________________________________ 1. Package name : World 2. Class name : CreateWorld 3. Method of CreateWorld : Transcript show: 'Hello World' Now here are the steps to do point by point to SAVE the program as another image. The copy of the image should be starting direct in full screen and show : Hello World I think this "huge" task will motivate the creative developer ! Hans

Mouse wheel scrolling not working right on Windows

Hello I am reposting this from Moose mailing list, because it seems like problem in Pharo itself. In HandMorph>>#generateKeyboardEvent: is a condition based on charCode which tells whether incoming input event is of keyboard type or mousewheel type (code quoted below). On Linux, when I use mouse wheel, keyValue and charCode are both 30 or 31 respectively. But on Windows there is keyValue 30 or 31, but charCode 0. This condition is based on charCode being 30 or 31 so it absolutely never returns MouseWheelEvent. When I replace charCode with keyValue there, mouse wheel works fine (but I am not sure whether it might not break something else). Pharo core windows like System browser or Monticello seem to somehow get around it and work, but nothing else, like Roassal where I reported this bug before, so in whole Roassal mouse wheel does not work on Windows. Thanks Jan , i know that the system itself is the program. But there must be "Image" programs out there to download. I only want to download a program ( Folder with image and exe [Pharo Container] ) Online. Just to see and start the program and see how it opens. ( like a normal program [ Pharo IDE is shadowed] ). Guess that i am a user. I have heared about Pharo and want to test a real program. Hans Hello again , are there any Pharo Program examples online ? I dont mean normal examples from coding. using pillar and/or pillarhub

Hi, I wanted to experiment with Pillar however I'm not sure what to use to edit it. I was expecting some kind of editor with preview directly in Pharo but there is nothing. The next best thing I found was PillarHub based on Ace editor, however it depends on Mozilla Persona. Is such thing needed? If I'm running it locally why would I need to login somewhere? You don't log in to IDE when you want to program. Also such thing requires internet connection and is all extra nuisance when used on localhost. Is there a way to disable it? Do you use this setup, or are you all writing it in vim/emacs and only compile it once in a while? Thanks, Peter

Self-removing announcement subscription?

Hi all Today I come with a question regarding announcements. I would like to make announcement subscription which would remove itself after first use. Something like... anObject announcer subscribe: TRMouseDragEnd do: [ :event | self thisMethodWith: differentParameters. "anObject announcer removeSubscription: ...this one..." ]. All I was able to do is write there anObject announcer unsubscribe: self. which somehow works, but this instance could have multiple subscriptions and it would remove even those I don't want to remove, I need to remove only this specific one... starting a program

Hello , thank you for the answers. I will "copy" the folder on USB stick in the first way. Other options as github and launcher later. It is a little bit strange to start a program. There is one package. Inside the package are two classes. To start ONE class i do with classname new classname. But what must i do to start the whole programm ? Normally , after i have started the complete program. I have to save the program as the "program image file". Then this image will display the program when it is opened from the pharo.exe file. The program should run immediatelly in full screen mode. This sounds strange questions.
