Hello all, Are there any existing tools that will, for example, find all methods marked with a specific author and not in a given list of packages? At least I _think_ that's what I want :) I have been extending an install script that I used to initially create the image I am using, and it might be best converted to a list of packages known to a builder that could also help look for methods that might be about to be left behind. I am thinking ahead to moving to a later beta and fearing leaving important code behind. Clearly I will keep my current image and be able to return to it, but some good tools could help avoid a lot of frustration. Some of my concern is over a few strange things that I've noticed about SIF's response to Dolphin's virtual categories. Bill

aka $HOME or ~/ There is SecurityManager default untrustedUserDirectory but on my machine this returns '/Users/damien/Library/Preferences/Squeak/Internet/My Squeak' and SecurityManager default secureUserDirectory but this one returns nonsense like '/foobar/tooBar/forSqueak/bogus' Besides I have no idea what an untrusted user directory is. Stef, Esteban, I would be very open to FFI but them immediately start to wonder about OS threads. From what I remember of the OpenSSL non-blocking calls, somebody else can do that part - I'll use threads. Dolphin has what are called overlapped calls that are made on a separate thread. Originally, it pulled from a pool of threads. The latest version might ensure that all calls from a given Smalltalk process are made on the same OS thread. My requests for such a feature in Squeak/Pharo have always been met with "yeah, you could do that if you wanted" or something along those lines. Ideally, I would hope the FFI gurus would embrace it and do it properly. Have they done so? Bill

I'm post an issue http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=1173 Looks like call of aDisplayText form: in MorphicUIManage>>composeFormFor: is redundant Found during trying to run InterpreterSimulator (i realy want to help improve project). After i add accessor, i recieve an DNU of ByteSymbol>>coerceTo:sim: Is any have any idea. Is this method missing in VMMaker package or removed in Pharo.

[Pharo-project] latest Pharo-dev... where are the refactoring tools?

Hi, I downloaded latest pharo dev (since a few versions ago), and I noted the changes in the browsers, to O2Browser, and droping OBEnhancement (which was too slow, I think). The change is cool, we have faster browsers, but now I lost all those wonderful refactoring tools... Is there a way I can get them back? is there a refactoring browser or something? Cheers, Esteban

[Pharo-project] Building a VM and/or plugins

Hello all, Is there a correct place to start for a Pharo VM? I do not have a mac; Linux is of interest and Windows is currently an obligation born of inertia. So far, I have found mentions of the need to put the sources in a conspicuous location, but I have yet to find whether that has happened or where to look for the code. Various hassles and some accumulated success have me increasingly motivated to get SSL working. I realize this will trigger some well-intentioned mentions of stunnel and the cryptogrpahy package, but OpenSSL is the answer in my case. Stunnel can be misconfigured (or not configured at all), and I really cannot defend the crypto package against anything from FUD to tough questions. IIRC, I couldn't even load it the last time I tried. The question then becomes whether to connect to OpenSSL via FFI/Alien or to make a plugin. One absolute requirement is that the image not turn to stone when an address is wrong, a peer crashes, or a router gets unplugged w/o warning. The most obvious solution to me (please speak up if you disagree) is to connect/bind, read/write and disconnect on a connection-specific OS thread. Any insights to help get there would be greatly appreciated. Bill
