As for the rest of gray-beards, i wonder, how long it to make a debugger window to pop-up with one additional button, named 'file a but report' so then any newcomers will send a proper stack trace instead of a screenshot and implementation of DNU method? [Pharo-project] VNC on mac?

I've been trying to test the RFBServer on a Mac using the Seaside 2.8.4 image. I'm using Chicken of the VNC as my VNC client, but all I get is a static iamge of the Squeak desktop. Can't referesh and certainly can't interact. The connection info says it IS an interactive session though. Any ideas for what I'm doing wrong? THanks Lawson

Ok Eliot has applied them to the squeak trunk. I'm not near a big enough machine so I'll look later tonight but if anyone is keen please make a start. [Pharo-project] problem with running Pharo under Solaris 10 9/05

Hello. I can't manage to run the virtual machine under solaris 10. I have permanently the following output: -bash: ./squeak: Invalid argument Here is the output when I try to run the image with the vm of squeak: iconv_open: Invalid argument This interpreter (vers. 6502) cannot read image file (vers. 1746468864). Press CR to quit... Could someone provide me with a solution or with instructions to compile a vm for Solaris 10? The makefile is somewhat obscure with plenty of includes at /home/bryce/squeak/exupery without knowing whatś in there. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ivaylo

[Pharo-project] Patterns for Extensible Code Models

I was talking today about ways of extending a code model (like, the one inside Pharo that represents my packages, classes, and methods), and realized that I need to publicize some patterns that Daniel Vanisencher and I worked out some years ago when we were trying to separate the computation of the required-methods property (needed for traits) from the particular browser that one might use to look at it. The key idea behind these patterns is to take the work of recomputing some property of the model out of the browser, so that we do not get complaints that "Pharo is too slow". The paper is at http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~black/publications/ModelExtensions.pdf It's quite long, but I think that it is easy to read. can someone point me to any of the following 1) a definitive set of changesets or MC packages we applied for the closure integration 2) a definitive squeak (or other) image with closures integrated. Did Elliot publish a closure image? i ask because i'm trying to hunt down a debugger bug. I downloaded Squeak 3.10.2 but I don't think that has closures (?). I tried to update it to trunk but the process stalled. i'm not up on squeak these days - is there a snapshot of the trunk somewhere? Anyway just looking for another image i can use to compare method versions. thanks! Mike

[Pharo-project] The better debugger support by extending an Object protocol

Hello guys, i'd like to discuss with you an idea of having a specific methods in Object class for a better and more clever behavior when debugging. For those of you who are using different kinds of proxies, the main problem with them that you should override the #printOn: or #printString methods in order to behave them similar to what original(proxied) object should be, but from other side, especially for debugging purposes, this incurs a major inconvenience, because you often need to differentiate between the real object and object proxy while debugging. Because if proxy behaves similar to proxied object while printing, you can't really make a difference when looking at it. So, i thought that a nice solution would be to extend an Object protocol especially for debugging purposes by adding #debugPrintOn: method and change the debugger to use this message, instead of #printOn: for displaying objects in inspector panels. Here is the default implementation of Object>>debugPrintOn: aStream ^ self printOn: aStream And, as you may guess, now the proxy could choose to behave differently depending on context. P.S.
