How do you develop for gemstone in open source tools (pharo)?

Hello, I'm curious how _comfortably_ develop software for Gemstone, which is the preferred/best way (and future)? 1) tODE - OK, a decent amount of work was inserted to it to make it work somehow. Decent tools with git support, a lot of windows (autolayouting required), very basic inspector, based on obsolete Pharo3, no autocomplete, weird auto code formating etc. :( Will the development continue (better inspectors, autocomplete, etc)? 2) gt4gemstone - new project based on GT tools, great playground/workspace/inspectors, running in latest Pharo, but again, just basic browser, no autocompletion, no syntax coloring (so far), but modern way What is the plan? Write proper class browser and code editor again from scratch? There is amazing new browser for Pharo, Calypso, which has remote browsing capabilities (but probably different remoting/proxy layer than gt tools) - is possible to utilize this project for remote Gemstone browsing in future? 3) develop in Pharo, then deploy to Gemstone With some compatibility layers, there is possibility to develop application/business logic in Pharo (with bare collections, dicts, containers etc.) and then deploy code to Gemstone and test. Nice scenario, latest modern dev tools (browsers, inspectors, versioning) from Pharo, but on the dev side in Pharo, no transaction logic (test transaction logic with junit impossible/not available etc.), also not compatible class library - so also with drawbacks with different Smalltalk implementation chaos :( I would very much like to get involved with Gemstone dev, but it scratches a bit now. integrating FileDialog into Pharo 7

Hi, some people expressed interest in integrating File Dialog https://github.com/peteruhnak/file-dialog into Pharo as the default file dialog. Is it something people are interested in, or is the current solution sufficient for them? Peter

How to specify metacello package dependencies in a git world?

Hi - I am trying to specify a simple package dependency(NeoJSON) for a hello world type simple project and Iâm hitting problems. Iâve been reading the DeepIntoPharo chapter and have looked at the blog post by Uko (http://blog.yuriy.tymch.uk/2015/07/pharo-and-github-versioning-revision-2.h… <http://blog.yuriy.tymch.uk/2015/07/pharo-and-github-versioning-revision-2.h…>) But Iâm hitting some simple issues and Iâm hoping someone can put me straight. My first attempt was the following (my Package is âLambdaâ and has been versioned and put into GitHub using iceberg defaults). baseline: spec <baseline> spec for: #common do: [ spec package: 'Lambda' with: [ spec requires: 'NeoJSON' ]. spec project: 'NeoJSON' with: [ spec className: 'ConfigurationOfNeoJSON'; version: #stable; repository: 'https://github.com/svenvc/NeoJSON/tree/master/repository' ] ]. My first question is, what should the repository URL be? No-one seems to talk about this in the git world where the gitfile tree info can be in different places per project (some put it in the root of the repo, other src, others repository or packages etc.). Am I right in thinking this url should be where the .package file is located? When I try the above example by trying: (BaselineOfLambda project version: 'baseline') load. I get a talkback - Could not resolve: ConfigurationOfNeoJSON [ConfigurationOfNeoJSON] in /Users/macta/Dev/Smalltalk/Pharo/Pharo-6-60495-c/pharo-local/package-cache https://github.com/svenvc/NeoJSON/tree/master/repository <https://github.com/svenvc/NeoJSON/tree/master/repository> (Strangely, that file path is wrong as its pointing to some other directory on my filesystem - and Iâve posted a question about this on the thread about the working directory implementation, as it looks like MCCacheRepository uniqueInstance is getting the wrong default directory). Anyway - as the above didnât work, I tried to find an example of someone else using Neo and of course Sven had and example but his looks like this: baseline: spec <baseline> spec for: #common do: [ spec configuration: 'NeoJSON' with: [ spec versionString: #stable; repository: 'http://mc.stfx.eu/Neo' ]. spec package: 'Lambda' with: [ spec requires: 'NeoJSON' ]. ]. I danât seen anyone mention spec configuration before (is this a better way?) - although looking at this directory, it seems this is where normal Mcz files are, so is it because of that you use this other method? Anyway , when I try the above - I get a similar error to the above, but now it fails loading my Lambda package (presumably because if the filesystem error?). Am I on the right track with the above? Submitting bug fix or enhancement: still "Pharo50Inbox"?

Dears, I would like to submit some snippet of code, as "enhancement", to the Pharo code. I'm using Pharo 6.0 image, so I thought that I should send my code "Pharo60Inbox", but in http://pharo.org/contribute-propose-fix is stated that should I send my code to the "Pharo50Inbox". Is that correct? or Should I send my code to "Pharo60Inbox"? Thanks, Matteo

PreDebugWindow: Report to whom?

In the PreDebugWindow, there is an option to Report an exception. But to whom does it report? I can't find any documentation for this. Pharo starts completely minimized

For some reason, every time i start pharo. like: ./pharo-ui Pharo.image it starts as a tiny box.. a completely minimized window..Â any ideas? should i be starting it differently? How to view hierarchy of multiple classes in a package?

Hi guys - I'm trying to get back into pharo, and check out the advances in v5. Anyway, if I look at a package in the system browser, it shows me classes in that package (i think my terminology is right here?). What confuses me, is his I can see the hire hybrid the classes in relation to each other? The hier button just shows the hierarchy of the selected class and not in relation to the others? I'm sure at some point pharo and squeak let you see the related hierarchies of all the classes in the package didn't it? This is really useful to help understand the relationship between classes and pure risky identify useful refactorings. I can't see how to do this in pharo anymore? Is this functionality that has been lost (which seems a shame)? Or am I missing another useful browsers? Tim Sent from my iPhone
