Frozen is melted (can you guys please be patient?)
by Esteban Lorenzano March 10, 2017

March 10, 2017

Hi, First, let me be clear: I *like* sublimish theme (not for my use, but I like it), and I like (a lot) the windows list on spotter, and I like in general all this new additions. And I know, most of those additions are usability enhancements so a good thing. But can you guys stop pushing new features into a (in theory) frozen version? Pharo 7 will arrive soon⦠*if* we can fix all things missing. If I can suggest an orientation, it would be good, for those that use linux and mac (windows is not ready), to test and help fix 64bits version. There are still plenty of bugs to fix there, like for example why Spotter does not shows search line. Last week I added support to Athens and SDL2 in 64bits but that meant: - some important changes in UFFI - discover something that seems is failing on callbacks for Cairo (no idea if it is a callbacks problem or an image problem that causes a callback problem). I would say all this and the fact we are working on 64bits in general deserves a lot of testing. I will add links in Pharo page to download 64bits (Iâm at the train now), but in the mean time you can download all from here: http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo-64.zip <http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo-64.zip> http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo64-linux-latest.zip <http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo64-linux-latest.zip> (linux) http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo64-mac-latest.zip <http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo64-mac-latest.zip> (mac) http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/sources.zip <http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/sources.zip> (in case you need them) cheers, Esteban

Helvetia in Pharo?

Just wondering what you mean by this. Could you please elaborate a bit what you mean that it would now be less expensive to have a Helvetia system in Pharo? The last time it was implemented was in Pharo 1.1.2 ** Regards Hannes **http://scg.unibe.ch/research/helvetia

Epicea - showing latest lost changes
by Ben Coman March 9, 2017

March 9, 2017

One thing I am missing from Epicea that I used to be able to do is being able to filter out old changes. If I've been thrashing some method back and forth between a few implementations, often I don't want to see *all* the old changes, only the latest ones. An option to restore old versions would also be nice, but I don't think that feature existed previously. cheers -ben

You should use primitive 242: primSignal: aSemaphore atUTCMicroseconds: anInteger "Signal the semaphore when the UTC microsecond clock reaches the value of the second argument. Fail if the first argument is neither a Semaphore nor nil, or if the second argument is not an integer. Essential. See Object documentation whatIsAPrimitive." <primitive: 242> ^self primitiveFailed The use of the UTC microsecond count eliminates any and all wrapping issues for about 50,000 years [puhleaze Mr Pruitt can you try and do your bit to make it possible that we'll make it that far. hic. ed.]. The old primitive 136 primSignal:atMilliseconds: is subject to wrapping problems. I see that primSignal:atMilliseconds: is still used in Squeak 5.x but only to turn off signaling: Delay class>>shutDown "Suspend the active delay, if any, before snapshotting. It will be reactived when the snapshot is resumed." "Details: This prevents a timer interrupt from waking up the active delay in the midst snapshoting, since the active delay will be restarted when resuming the snapshot and we don't want to process the delay twice." AccessProtect wait. self primSignal: nil atMilliseconds: 0. self saveResumptionTimes. DelaySuspended := true. Delay class>>stopTimerInterruptWatcher "Reset the class variables that keep track of active Delays and re-start the timer interrupt watcher process. Any currently scheduled delays are forgotten." "Delay startTimerInterruptWatcher" self primSignal: nil atMilliseconds: 0. TimingSemaphore ifNotNil:[TimingSemaphore terminateProcess]. I will change this now. Hi I have the impression that if you - perform an implementor of a method (not closing the window) - then perform an rename method => you get a DNU ast Could I get some confirmation? Stef

... and was moved to OSWindow-SDL2 as OSSDL2ExternalForm. If we require external form but don't want to depend on OSWindow what is the right way to go? Do we need to copy OSSDL2ExternalForm with project specific name? Advice with best practice would be nice :) Cheers, Alex
