Dear all, I did a new Browser for the Magma object-oriented database, implemented on top of the OmniBrowser framework. I've uploaded a demo video in YouTube for the impatient : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxUaOFRHFPk The project Home Page is : http://swikicaicyt.homeip.net/WebOpus/56 (you may access to other projects using http://www.caicyt.gov.ar/letodoc/paquetes-publicados) you will find there pre-built images ready for download for both Pharo and Squeak, besides installation instructions for installing and testing the MagmaBrowser in your image. Currently the status is under testing and bug-fixing, and I know there is a lot of things I should include, but you may take a look anyway as I browsed local repositories without problems last times I've used it, so I hope you may find it useful too. Finally, I want to publicly thank to Norberto Manzanos for letting me doing this, Chris Muller for his nice reviews and the OmniBrowser developers for mantaining such a great framework. HernÃ¡n

Hi this night I was thinking about a frequent misconception about pharo. It is easy to think that pharo wants just plain good engineering to open grey window. Pharo really wants to be innovative and this at all level. We want better/faster/leaner and more powerful code at all level: UI, network... I heard that some people think that we are against MVC but we are not We are against isMorphic ifTrue: ifFalse:. Pharo does not have to be in the seaside niche and it will not be. But if this makes the life easier to some perfect. Now pharoers do not have to either pick web or the rest. We want to make sure that if someone wants to build an alternative windowing system he can do it easily. (BTW alain showed to us some fun and powerful sketches of using cairo (via rome) to have multiple windowing skeleton.) Now we certainly do not have the knowledge for everything but this is not by a lack of vision. So if you want to build this future don't get us wrong. Stef PS: I still have in mind the vision of Smalltalk by dan: a system that a simple person could understand (for me it means beauty, documentation and elegance of the solutions).

Hi Can somebody tell us if you have the same behavior: 1 Open a large squeak window 2 move it so that a part of it is outside of your physical screen 3 open a browser and move the browser so that it overlaps with the region outside of your screen -> you should get black and heavy flickering when you move your window. [Pharo-project] Problems with Czech accented characters

Hi there, in older version of Pharo (pharo1.0-10487-BETAdev09.10.4) I was able to type Czech acc. chars (like ÄÅ¡ÄÅÅ¾Ã½Ã¡ÃÃ©) without problems. But in most recent image, there is problem - instead of these characters, I see only '?'. What has changed? In the older version, there is 'Fonts' folder (none in recent version), so I suppose, that font handling is now different. Importing DejaVu Czech font into recent image doesn't help. Any suggestiions what I should do? Thanks, Martin

Hi all, sorry for all these annoying questions ... I would simply like to remove these preferences with: alwaysHideScrollbar always false alwaysShowHScrollbar always true alwaysShowVScrollbar always true. I can easily put new settings for them but is it really mandatory ? Instead, removing them let the opportunity to replace ScrollPane/ScrollBar with GeneralScrollPane/GeneralScrollBar (which are unused whereas it seems to me that they are cleaner and more simple) what do you think ? thanks Alain

Hi, folks! I'm new to Smalltalk, but I love it already. I have two questions, I couldn't find answers for: 1) I have written a method which creates a new class. How can I check, if the class I want to create does not exist already? ... Object subclass: textKlassenname asSymbol instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'ZFriend-Bibliothek' 2) I want to write a method, which deletes the created class. How can I do it? P.S.: I did not find any place to look it up for myself. Any hints where to find such answers? Thanks for your help!!! Dirk
