I made [iceberg](http://github.com/pharo-vcs/iceberg) to work on 64bits! Now, I need to promote a new VM as stable (and probably backported it to Pharo 6.0) * After 1.5 days still working on 64bits version of [iceberg](http://github.com/pharo-vcs/iceberg) and that annoying malloc crash. Last idea was the believing something is wrong with sizes and marshallings so I verified all: * I reviewed all structures and callbacks. * I took a look to each function call. I got some differences that needed to be fixed and perticularly a lot of +size_t+ that were wrongly mapped as +FFIUInt32+ and I have some movement: it is not crashing anymore on malloc (which is a relief), but is still crashing someplace later. I'm now reviewing that. 19 June 2017: ------------- * I spent the full day trying to get [iceberg](http://github.com/pharo-vcs-iceberg) to work on 64bits. Is almost working... if it wouldn't be because I'm having a random crash while trying to +malloc+ something random. We'll see tomorrow. cheers! Esteban

Saving a setting in Pharo

For my GSoC project I've been working on the rule toggle so I created a setting that bans a rule for the whole image. But I'm thinking that some of you might want to disable a certain rule for all the following images too. Hence my question: how to save a setting programatically so that the same setting would immediately work for the next image as well? For now I only know how to do it manually but I need a more elegant way to do this: [image: Inline images 2] Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Regards, Myroslava.

Reviving the Android VM

Hi all, long time no see :-) Recently I spent a bit of time trying to piece together an Android VM using the up to date versions of AndroidStudio, SDK and NDK. Once things are building and running, I was planning to fold everything back into the proper build process. Current (somewhat messy) state of things here https://github.com/mrueger42/st-android It has been quite a long time since I looked at building VMs, so forgive me if I'm just being stupid here... I was able to get the original port from Andreas to build and run, but it is a very outdated version. Still nice to have it as a piece of history, I think (AndroidVM in the above repo). Some puzzle pieces later I have something running that is based on recent CogSpur opensmalltalk code and bits and pieces I found. Unfortunately CogSpur doesn't seem to play well with the setjmp/longjmp used in the code (CogDroid in the above repo). Plus, the VM is running on the UI thread, not something that is viewed well on mobile. Actually it makes Android just kill the app if you block the UI thread for too long. Trying to run the VM on a thread runs into a division by 0 exception (I think) and finds me way out of my league to track down why that would be. Crash below... I haven't really tried getting Dmitry's version to build/work in a current environment, partly because I'm not sure I'm looking at the most up to date version (see below). Any help, pointers, code snippets highly appreciated! Cheers Michael P.S. vested interest in PharoJS?

Hi all, Is anyone else interested in PharoJS and making it mature for their own commercial mobile and single page web app (and node.js) development? I think it has a huge potential because it brings the browser runtime and many libraries and online services from the JS world to us Smalltalkers while letting us keep our agile development and good CS practices. But it does not yet have the necessary features and documentation to work smoothly. -- Siemen

New User and the Rectangle class.

Hello! I'm new to this list, so I apologize if this topic has already been considered. I have been re-creating the Laser Game tutorial in Pharo 6, and have encountered something that may be an error within Pharo. The LayoutFrame has the ability to use negative values for the bottom and right sides of the rectangle assigned to the offsets, e.g. LayoutFrame fraction: ((0@0 corner: (1@1)) offsets: ((4@4 corner: (-4@-4)). This is useful, as it allows the system to automatically calculate the margins inset from the bottom and right sides of the container. In Pharo 6, this does not work. The setLeft:right:top:bottom: and setPoint:point: messages both use the min: and max: messages to rearrange the Rectangle so that the smallest numbers get pushed to the top and left. In order to get things to render correctly in my system, I had to change these messages to look like this: setLeft: left right: right top: top bottom: bottom self setPoint: (left@top) point: (right@bottom). setPoint: pt1 point: pt2 origin := pt1. corner := pt2. In place of this: setLeft: left right: right top: top bottom: bottom origin := (left min: right) @ (top min: bottom). corner := (left max: right) @ (top max: bottom). setPoint: pt1 point: pt2 origin := (pt1 x min: pt2 x) @ (pt1 y min: pt2 y). corner := (pt1 x max: pt2 x) @ (pt1 y max: pt2 y). I haven't found any bad side-effects to changing this yet, but is there a reason the Rectangle class was changed? Thanks, Trey
