[ANN] Visual Memory profiler

Dear Friends and Colleagues, We are happy to announce Memory Profiler, a new profiler for Pharo. This profiler gives a nice output that indicates the memory consumption along the method call graph. Consider the following piece of code: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= (MSP profile: [ Object browse ] onPackagesMatching: 'Nautilus*' ) inspect -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Consider that MSP uses instrumentation, therefore long execution may take really long. The code above takes about 19 seconds on my iMac. It opens a visualization that indicates some interesting fact about memory consumption. For example, the expression âObject browseâ consumes 14 851 kb with instances of the class Point. More than 1M of points are created. The Smalltalk Renaissance Program

I've launched a PR campaign to promote and advance the use of Smalltalk (and Amber): http://smalltalkrenaissance.wordpress.com/ <http://smalltalkrenaissance.wordpress.com/> I am seeking the support of the Smalltalk community. My intention is to make Smalltalk Renaissance /a rallying point/ around which everyone can gather and contribute to this campaign. Over the coming weeks and months, I shall outline my plan (which is still evolving). There have been many prior attempts to popularize Smalltalk. None have had any traction. Despite the best efforts of the Smalltalk community, today Smalltalk has become a largely forgotten language. (Smalltalk has fallen off the cliff at the TIOBE index, and it ranks poorly at Redmonk and langpop.corger.nl.) /I am trying something different./ Smalltalk Renaissance is a PR campaign. It is trying to /market/ Smalltalk, not on the exclusive basis of /technical merit/, but also by addressing criticisms and generating excitement about the future of software engineering. Hi I found the blue rectangle morph painful because it blocks me when I want to freely edit expression and result. Would it be possible that when I type enter the blue rectangle text is paste in the pane below its expression. Right now I have to copy and paste explictly and it not working. I hate so much this broken interaction.... Example (20@200) printString get blue rectangle press copy parentheses got hilighlited no idea why then I press enter to go to the next line (my selection vanished of course because the magic things selected everything automatically) and I can paste the result and start to edit it. I sincerly hope that GT guys will understand and modify it because right now this is a show stopper to me. It breaks so badly interaction with texts. Stef

Cormas now open-source

Dear all, the CORMAS modelling platform is now open-source and available under the MIT licence. CORMAS (Common-pool Resources and Multiagent Systems; Bousquet et al., 1998) has been developed to provide a multi-agent framework that can be used to simulate the interactions between a group of agents and a shared environment holding natural resources. The code is written in VisualWorks 7.6 and a port to the Pharo/MOOSE has started recently.
