Pharo 1.2 is red. The error is that it couldn't load rb-spelling.dat from Lukas' site. I could load it so triggering a new build might help. Norbert

Hi, this is a question to the MAC VM maintainers. Would it be posible to include the FreeType plugin with the shipped vm's? Neither of the following include it, COGMTVM COGVM StackVM By the way, you did an excellent job integrating it with Hudson! thank you for the great work. With Squeak 4.2.5beta1U ( most recent un-cog vm) the plugin is included. Smalltalk listLoadedModules includes 'FT2Plugin 24 April 2007 (e)' Fernando

[Pharo-project] Compiling and using the FT2Plugin

Hi all, I try to build my own vm (ubuntu 10.04, virtualbox) Thanks to the **excellent** Mariano blog, I can compile, it runs ok except the FT2Plugin I always have the following error message while trying to load fonts: ioLoadModule(libFT2Plugin.so): libFT2Plugin.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I guess that it is because the plugin is unable to load libfreetype.so. does someone know what I am missing ? thanks Alain

Hi all, I have convinced a friend to take a closer look at Pharo 1.2.1 and Dolphin Smalltalk. He is an experienced Java developer. After some time he started to complain about Pharo. I was discussing with him and now think that he has some valid points. His biggest complaint is: "Why does Pharo always show windows at sizes and positions I don't want?" I answered him: You could set the standard window size in the class RealEstateAgent and furthermore you can create or change >>initialExtent methods in every class that is involved. But his answer was: Why should I do that? It's the responsibility of an IDE. I don't want to program elementary things of my IDE. Why is there no mechanism that let a user set the sizes and positions of windows? Netbeans and Eclipse are doing that nicely. Why isn't it possible in Pharo? After that discussion I now question my own way of using Pharo and Squeak. I have created some changesets that I used to file in when using a fresh image. But that seems stupid now... His second complaint was that he doesn't like the cluttered windows. While programming he had a lot of open windows and told me that he lost overview. Especially in Pharo he is complaining about minimized windows that are hard to distinguish. He better likes Dolphin with tabbed windows that are common in other IDE's. Regards Andreas

1) Browse the example Trait1 and you will see methods like: Trait1 >> c ^ 'Trait1>>c' and: Trait1 >> c1 ^ 'Trait1>>c1' 2) Now, execute "Trait1 initialize" 3) BOOM. Trait1 has no longo any method. In the browse they are shown like: Trait1 >> c "This method does not exist." self halt. Trait2 >> c1 "This method does not exist." self halt. .... If I see Trait >> initialize super initialize. classTrait := ClassTrait for: self and then ClassTrait for: "This method does not exist." self halt. wtf ?? that method is removed? this even happens before doing Trait1 initialize. so...any idea? -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com
