I haven't done much with it, and there are some deprecation warnings, but it's running. Hi. I was trying the welcome workspace of Pharo 1.1 in order to install Magma but it fails. I am evaluating: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfMagma'; load. ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfMagma) project latestVersion) load The error was a Sintax Error in lazyX ^ x ifNil: [x _ Period or right bracket expected ->42] I attach screenshot. It seems the problem with the underscore as they are not allowed anymore as asiggment in Pharo 1.1. In order to appear in Pharo welcome workpsace this should be working. If someone makes the changes and updates de configuration please let me know (sorry but I don't have time to do it myself). Otherwise, I will have to remove it from Pharo 1.1 workspace as it doesn't work and makes confusion. Thanks Mariano

Hi all! A friend of mine wondered why he couldn't copy/paste a text in UTF8 (with swedish Ã¥Ã¤Ã¶ characters in it) and paste into Pharo without getting a debugger :) It turns out that the One-Click pharo.sh uses "-encoding latin1" when it starts the VM. But the code in Clipboard>>clipboardText evidently presumes that clipboard is coming in as UTF8 always - might be the new clipboard plugin that Michael did that does that? Anyway, why is pharo.sh using "-encoding latin1"? It works fine when that option is removed. regards, GÃ¶ran

This is Yet Another Request for the Grammar to Pharo/Squeak Smalltalk? I have seen this: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/409 but it is very old and doesn't appear to cater for Pharo/Squeak additions. Can someone point me to a more recent grammar? Rgs, James.

Why does primitive 65 (#next) include a test on the position vs. read length and sometimes fall back on indexing the collection? I have been creating my own stream for serial ports, and it was driving me nuts. After staring at the obvious (the primitive was failing sooner than I expected), I finally looked at Dolphin and saw the same test and fallback. Doing the analogous things in my code left it working a lot better than it had been. What gives? Are we perhaps suffering from a primitive that fails too easily and is running slow code as a result, or is there a "valid" reason for the primitive to fail? Bill

Hi, Over the past week I worked on a new theme for Pharo called the Glamorous Theme :). The theme is developed in the context of the Glamour project, and its goal is to create a look that: - does not look like a specific operating system. In particular, the icons should be operating system agnostic, because, for example, people in Windows are confused by the red, yellow, green buttons of apple. - uses a limited amount of colors and effects. It is still work in progress, but you can get the current version by executing: Gofer new squeaksource: 'Glamour'; package: 'Glamour-Morphic-Theme'; load. GLMUITheme defaultSettings: nil. I've stuck a version (5.8b9) of the cocoa based os-x squeak cog JIT based VM in my experimental folder. http://homepage.mac.com/johnmci/.Public/experimental/Squeak%205.8b9.app.zip Changes are: (a) Slight changes to the Open/GL code in hopes to make it work better on 10.5 machines (b) Add ioUtcWithOffset (c) Application quit menu, quit from dock, or window close now triggers a Areithfa Ffenestri window event saying the window is closing. Most images (I guess?) look for that and prompt the user to save or not-save the image and/or quit. People producing Squeak Images should confirm the behaviour is what they expect. [Pharo-project] Redirect compiler warnings to file

Hi When loading large chunks of code (like Moose), some warnings appear in the Transcript. The problem is the Transcript has a limited size and that with all information dumped into, the first one get lost before we can take a look at them. Does anyone know a way to capture/redirect the Transcript output to a file, or the output from Compiler (maybe using the requestor parameter?) -- Simon
