I did eval matthewf's comment but, unfortunately, the file name should have been .cs rather than .st. It's not exactly quick and simple. Did it fix the issue? Works for me. Hi guys I spent 3 hours looking for improvement in MC1.5. (of course I got problem when loading the code - but this can be fixed) When I could load it, it is indeed much faster. Finally And matthew nicely pointed me to his improvement. I will have a look at the specific speedup made by matthew and see if I can make that work. Now instead of extracting a speedup from that code (and looking like a thief) I would prefer that we do a task force and check MC1.6 improve it clean it if necessary. So does anybody with knowledge want to help on that topic? I'd rather you just used MC1.5 rather than port it, but ok There are two speedups in Monticello 1.6: Scanning the class heiarchy looking for package elements is 10x faster, due to a rewrite of the scanning code. Loading is 3-6x faster, especially for large packages, due to the atomic loader. I believe you can't make much use of the second, as the atomic loader doesn't support traits yet. The rewritten scanning code is in class PackageInfo, category single-pass. To merge it into Monticello, simply call PackageInfo >> classesDo:methodsDo:displayingProgress: from MCPackage >> snapshot. Attached is a changeset of the relevant code, extracted from mc1.6. [That phrase made me think: "we will remove BookMorph because it is a giant huge terrible mess. Now if you want multimedia publishing or creation have you look at openSophie? Stef"] ... some funny looking dwarfs were busy removing code ... That's like walking through a wonderful forest and randomly removing trees or branches, just because the aren't pretty enough or their "copyright" is unclear. Now you have removed many trees in the forest and replaced them by perfectly looking houses. And you have chased away all that funny animals, that were living in that forest, playing around within that unperfect, wild nature, therefore being motivated to participate to help making wood glades or creating funny things ... Now, thanks to some replacements of that old roots, the perfect looking houses can move as triple as fast in the wind, which even can blow much faster now, but the rest of the plants in this forest can't compete the wind, so it is planned to remove them completely. And - yes, the copyright of those new houses is much clearer now. But the wild bear, the badger, the lynx, they still prefer to live in their old caves, giving a shit on who created them in former times, completely ignoring those nice and perfectly looking houses .... that - by the way - can be found everywhere else outside this forest - bigger, greater, much nicer looking and even storm proofed. And the animals in this forest - being a bit sad about those happenings, they lived happily ever after, hopefully. Have fun! Tnx for reading, Guido Stepken

I read Stef comment before trying it out. I agree with Stef. Few additional comments: - When I develop an application, which pane should be the default one? Package or Group? Group I feel. Maybe a different ordering will make this clearer. Group, Hierarchy, Packages. - I feel the word Group a bit misleading. It does not say much actually, especially since I am intended to use it all the time. No better name to propose although. - Going from Group to hierarchy, and hierarchy -> Group does not preserve the selection. This is a crucial point in my opinion. - I feel the browser is a bit slower than before Good job! [Pharo-project] Problem with encoding and double quotes

Hi! I am having a problem with encoding and I am not sure if it is a bug or if it is correct. I copy Pier and Pharo mailing list. I am in Linux and when I write a double quote I write something like this: "Muelle Almirante Storni" If I write in OpenOffice, when I type the double quote key, OpenOffice writes something like this: âMuelle Almirante Storniâ Notice that the quotes are these last ones are twisted and the first were straight. If I copy paste "Muelle Almirante Storni" in a workspace of Pharo, it is perfectly understood. But if I paste I get: ?Muelle Almirante Storni? Now...I am developing a pier application my main problem is that my "functional information" is in .doc so they that the twisted ones. As they are put in the image trought Pier and a KomEncoded, there is not problem....until I try to search on the string. If I evaluate: ' âMuelle Almirante Storniâ' findString: 'esquel' startingAt: 1 caseSensitive: false This has a problem (index out of range) because internaly it tries to ask the asciiValue and this answers 2881 -> absurd Now, my solution is everytime I copy paste the text from a .doc to a Pier page I have to replace those twisted quotes for the straight ones. Is this a bug? or it is just like this ? thanks mariano
