Hi, I know that there was a long discussion regarding opening of files, but I did not see a resolution. I would like to be able to read files regardless of the encoding. I am using this code: (CrLfFileStream readOnlyFileNamed: fullPath) contentsOfEntireFile" but I get an error when I reach a file in Latin 1 (ISO-8859-1). Hi guys again I did a demo of smalltalk and the newInspecotr got in my way. I tried to analyze what did not work: - apparently the refresh does not work. Does change in instance variables get refreshed in the inspector? I try to understand what get in my way in general. - when an object has few instance variable I think that it is lost in the sea of trees. - I think that the |> class is not useful at the top level. May be just having Class: and the class Name is enough no need for the |> May be the Class : ByteString should appear after the Elements: - the |> methods to be useful should be sorted by category in the screenshot Why do I see the instance variable of the dictionary (array and tally) I find that confusing? Because I get elements and at the same time the instance variables. I do not understand why some lines are bold and other blue When we click on connectInfo I see on the right pane - size : 5 [#host] : a SocketAddress (size: 24) [#loginMethod] : #zork [#password] : nil [#port] : 110 [#user] : 'stephane.ducasse' But I cannot modify anything. What is the point to have Elements expanded in the left pane when I get the contents by clicking on the instance variable and getting the contents on the right. Then Keys should probably close to Elements. I do not see the point to have |> for individual method I do not understand why we see Elements and ByteCode I get a DNU when I click on Elements of a method BTW

Dear all, I come from a Java world and there we use for instance : http://hudson-ci.org/ to do a continuous integration build. Which means all latest code gets updated, all test ran & if build successful, the code is tagged (so you can take the code again from a successful build). It also provides a nice GUI, and lets you inspect previous builds, the results from that build, ... . In Pharo, I did not directly find an alternative, and therefor, also as an exercise, I tried to build one myself. The primitive, but working result so far is: http://www.squeaksource.com/BuildBot. This project depends on BBProjectDescription, which defines class BBBuildProjectDescription with defines: - BBBuildProjectDescription>>allProjectPackageNames - BBBuildProjectDescription>>installLatestWithDependencies - BBBuildProjectDescription>>buildsClassToPutVersionsOn What buildbot then does is using a BBBuildProjectDescription , checkout all latest code, run the tests for all these packages & , if successfull, take the buildsClassToPutVersionsOn and add a new method on it, describing the exact package numbers : for instance: BuildBotMockProjectBuilds class >> packagesForBuild20091127102654 ^#(('TODO' -> 'TODO-BKBAG.5.mcz') ('BuildBtMockProject' -> 'BuildBtMockProject-BartGauquie.7.mcz') ). Using this information I can easily install this exact version. Furthermore creating a release is then just creating for instance a class BuildBotMockProjectReleases with: BuildBotMockProjectReleasesclass >> release_1_0 ^BuildBotMockProjectBuilds packagesForBuild20091127102654 I am in fact 'tagging' a group packages that belong together and work together. So I can rollout this exact versions of the packages to some image automatically. However, Today I noticed that there already existed a project: http://www.squeaksource.com/TestServerSimple which more or less does the same thing. The only thing it does not do, or I did not find it, is to version the build, so that you can restore a project again ; a project which is consisting of a number of packages which are compatible and for which all tests ran. Is there a way to do that in TestServerSimple? Furthermore, are there any other projects that do a similar thing I'm not aware of? Is there any default way in Pharo to build a project which consists of multiple packages that each have different versions? I've seen MetaCello & Gofer as some other way 2 load groups of packages, but no integration into some kind of ci tool. This kind of automated ci server seems 2 me an essential tool in Pharo. [Pharo-project] Is there something wrong in debugging in the Morphic thread?

Unfortunately, this is an issue which I cant easily reproduce, at least not without a third party tool (1525). Now I would like the general opinion/experience of debugging Morphic code especially in threads. Usually an exception raised from within Morphic code pops up a debugger as usual. However, from time to time, or for more complicated stuff, the situation runs out of hand and tons of debugger pop up everywhere because the same faulty gets obviously executed again and again. Now can somebody with some Morphic knowledge explain how this is supposed to work and how to deal with such issues? -- Simon

[Pharo-project] BUG: some MC package not dirty...

What I did: 1) uploaded trunk code from Graphics package: this code was overriden by *FreeType-override 2) classified the code back to FreeType via drag-and-drop in a regular browser What I obtained: the changes were not in Graphics. But the FreeType package in Monticello Browser was still marked as clean (I mean not marked as *dirty). I feel like this is a UI bug... BTW, I noticed there is both a FreeType and a FreeType-Settings (or something like that). I thought it was wrong... isn't it? Nicolas

Well I can't speak for the Pharo management, but let me run the hurdles for you. (a) license, is of course an issue for some folks. I'll attach the mpeg3Plugin.bundle license Technically I think this fails Pharo's license test. The OLPC folks ban it, so Viewpoints Inc funded me to build a GStreamer plugin for EToys on the OLPC, that works well on linux/windows but is difficult to install on os-x. (b) support. Personally I think someone should harvest the Quicktime work that we did in Sophie. That works on macintosh/windows, possible on Linux with some of the quicktime clone libraries? In the past the argument has been oh then you have to install Quicktime on Windows. But if you look around you'll notice *everyone* has installed iTunes for Windows because *everyone* has an iPod. Oh and it stealth installs Quicktime to support iTunes. (c) scope creep.
