According to TIOBE, which is hardly a reliable metric, this month Java and Python are enjoying a massive upswing in popularity. In fact, TIOBE will most likely name Java *Programming Language of the Year* for 2015. (Both languages have been on an upward trajectory all year.) It's not hard to understand why Java's popularity is improving. Android programming is becoming more important, as the platform has begun to exceed iOS in terms of user experience with the advent of Lollipop and Marshmallow. Then there's the rise of the "Internet of Things," where Java seems to be well-suited. (I'm not sure what explains Python's bump in popularity, though. Maybe there's an increasing appetite for languages that are easy to learn. A clean, simple syntax is very, very important!) I think, more than ever, we need to have Smalltalk on the JVM. Java cannot be allowed to hog the limelight of IT. I was pinning my hopes on Redline, but I'm not sanguine about its future progress. Rather than waste time with PharoJS, wouldn't it be more prudent to focus on putting Pharo on the JVM?

Metacello cannot download the latest zip of a github repo if a zip already exists from a previous commit

So it looks like that when I do Metacello new baseline: 'ChronosManager'; repository: 'github://kilon/ChronosManager'; load and I have ChronosManager already installed via the same command previously , if the repo has changed in the mean time , it wont get the latest zip from github and instead will use the existing zip to overwrite my image (Not cool at all). Obviously a bug ?

https://vimeo.com/148637679 Added a class view that shows the methods. Dragging them out opens a method card, Shift-RightArrow adds a method card below the class card. Ctrl-- makes a method card use smaller text, Ctrl-+ larger. On my machines I have a bug in Keymapping or the VM that breaks a + that normally needs a shift to press. Stephan

Keymapping, shift vs non-shift

On my keyboard I have '+' in two positions: once over the '=' in the alphanumeric part,and once as a separate key on the numeric part. When I do a self bindKeyCombination: $+ command mac | $+ ctrl win | $+ ctrl unix toAction: [ self increaseFontSize ]. that only works for the numeric '+'. Is that supposed to be the case? The problem is that it forces me to know about the keyboard layout to define shortcuts. Stephan

How to detect wheter the computer is connected to the internet ?

Hey guys I try to make a way to detect whether my project is up to date and if not to update it from the github repo automagically. This part works fine , but I will also like to first detect whether the computer has an internet connection so to avoid unnecessary errors and checks . Is that possible ?

Fuel Slow?

I'm serializing about 20MB of data with Fuel and it takes about 45 seconds. Is that normal? Can anything be done to speed things up?
