Call for Participation in the Smalltalk Devroom at FOSDEM 2014. http://www.fosdem.org, please forward " A devroom for the Pharo, Squeak, Amber, GST, EtoilÃ©, Seaside, Moose Smalltalk projects & Newspeak as derived language. Smalltalk environments offer a very high development productivity, unmatched by their successors. Come do some pair programming with us and experience yourself the advantages of a real OO environment" The meetup will take place Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 9AM until 5PM, building AW. This room has 72 seats, a VGA video projector and wireless internet. More information will be available later. If there are volunteers to record video content, the FOSDEM organization kindly offered to provide needed equipment & instructions. Please let me know if you would be willing to spend some time pointing a camera at a speaker. Proposals on content and format are welcome. People interested in running a session should send me an email at stephan ( @ ) stack ( dot ) nl with 'FOSDEM2014â in the subject and the following information: - Their name - The project they are associated with - A short bio, to be put on the website along with their speaker name - (optionally) a picture of themselves - The title of their session (which will go on the website and in the booklet) - A abstract describing the session in further detail. - The desired length of the session. - The desired time slot in which they want to hold the session. I will send out updates on a regular basis to the lists and anyone stating his interest. Suggested values for the duration are 55min, 25min, 6m40 (Pecha Kucha). The desired time slot is meant to help you prevent conflicts with other dev rooms in which you might have a talk or your travel arrangements. There are alternative, non smalltalk-specific tracks available: lightning talk and the main track The deadline for submissions is December 31, 23:00 GMT+1. Pharo and the Morphic one window limitation

i was just wondering whether there were any /definite/ plans to free Morphic from the one window restriction - apart from the obvious/ it will be done when someone gets the time/ inclination/ money to do it/? Is this something we can expect in Pharo 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0? The current limitation is not a problem if your app uses a large window and all its other windows can fit easily inside it - but if you have a small application with a small main window (for example a minesweeper or soduku game) then you can't even fit in the load/save game dialog. Phratch acknowledgement?

Hi all, I'm not sure this is the proper place to discuss this, but I just felt I had to write it down. I've just been taking a look at the Phratch GoogleCode site and I've noticed there is not a single mention of where the project comes from... As an opposite example, when Phratch started out a couple years ago, we were really fast and careful to put out a notice in the Scat site letting people know that the project had been taken over by another team. We spent months filing out code from Scratch -a Squeak 2.8 image with barely any tools available-, we fixed hundreds of issues, we recorded screenshots, we documented every step we followed, we implemented a way to save and load projects via Fuel, we got the original Scratch media plugins to work, etc. but there is no mention of any of this anywhere. The amount of work we put in the -unfortunately named- Scat project is huge. We spent more than a year (even some 3-4 months full-time) in it, and I don't think it's egocentric at all to ask for a little recognition of who were the people behind the original project and what was the state of Scat when the Phratch team took over. I don't mean to sound angry, I'm not. I'm sure no information was omitted in bad faith, but recognition of other people's work is something I take very seriously. :) Best, Bernat. -- Bernat Romagosa.

And a new file named 'test.pdf' will be created on the root of your Pharo directory. OAuth2 Authentication Server available?

Anybody implemented OAuth2 as a server in Pharo? It is, token generation, management, invalidation, etc. I want to integrate the auth of our app to the native "AccountsManager" of Android, but for that I'd need a way to validate the tokens (or revoke them) server side. Pharo 3 beta impressions : SystemBrowser on first visit to new install

1) on first open after install on Windows, the SystemBrowser shows a list of class names in LastModified classes - but I have modified no classes in this image 2) on Quit no Save, even after selecting not to Save a second time, the pointer flips to show WRITING TO DISK which was surprising and also seemed not quite as one might expect 3) the title bar changes to SystemBrowser seemed more like bread-crumbs ... and displayed previous package name even after a single select in the list even if that previous package had not been entered. Perhaps this is optional behavior for the browser title bar ? Loosing one's place in a browser has long been a fact of life, but is this intended to track where I was last ? But I was not THERE ( I had not viewed a single item in that package ) NOTE : to see the browser title changes 1) select classes last changed ( top item left list ) 2) select a class ( I selected Komiter ) 3) single click elsewhere in the left list ( I selected as AST package ) 4) single click on your "where I intend to view a class package" - but the browser title bar still shows you as in that AST package that you never entered ... Or I have been on Android and in workbench-ed eclipse-fer-Java too much of late ;-) robert Canada

I do not want that end users to get expose to git on the command-line with different platforms. We should keep the simplicity of Pharo. Stef

Possible bug with Voyage-Mongo date

I'm running Pharo 3.0 beta with Voyage-Mongo. When I save a DateAndTime instance in the database, it's saved in Mongodb as the previous day. This occurs for all dates.
