Hi list, Developing a multi-platform application is not so easy when you have to deal with hardware it seems... So I'm having this PrimitiveFailed error on MacOS, using the latest stable VM listed on the pharo-project website on Pharo20: *PrimitiveFailed: primitive #primWritePortByName:from:startingAt:count: in SerialPort failed* The same code works fine both in Gnu/Linux and Win32, so I'm guessing it's a problem with the serial plugin included in this VM. Hi, I would like to find the parent of a FileReference. For example: /a/b/c ==> /a/b I could not find any straightforward way. Greetings and (re)introduction

Hi, I would like, briefly, to introduce myself and my company, Shared Logic Inc. We are a small software development company, my partner and myself, located in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. We've been in business for thirteen years, but I've been writing software professionally since 1989. We have been using Pharo for several production applications since early 2011. Until recently, we've had to invest our time and energy into several other development environments as well, preventing us from participating in the Pharo community as we would have liked. Over time, we've managed to migrate away from most of those other languages, and, today, we rely heavily upon Pharo and its many packages. I still consider myself a relative newcomer to Pharo (and Smalltalk in general), but my years of experience with many platforms, development tools, and problem domains tells me that Pharo is, by far, the best tool for the work we do. Better still, I can see that the Pharo community is smart, friendly, energetic, and committed to improving Pharo and expanding its reach. I hope that we can give something back to this community, to help promote and develop Pharo within the limits of our expertise and finances. Hi all, As a teacher, I always try to find new programming exercices for students. I discovered the CodeJam coding contest that provides problems and their data sets. We can also upload a solution on the website and it tells us if it is right or wrong. Example of problem: http://code.google.com/codejam/contest/dashboard?c=351101#s=p2 So, I did a little framework (CJSolver) to make it easier to read data sets and write result files. More info here: http://car.mines-douai.fr/2014/01/cjsolver-a-framework-to-solve-problems-of… The code is on Smalltalkhub but since I also wanted to commit data set files and correct results, I also have a github repo here: https://github.com/LucFabresse/CJSolver You can checkout the code, test it, implement solution to other problems or *optimize* already implemented solutions (I did the simplest version ;-)) and sometimes it is slow on big data sets. have fun, #Luc

Would be interesting to know more about the architecture, speed of machine, optimizations done, ... Anyone know more about it and able to share some insights. Thx T.
