Recovering _lost_ changes
by Yuriy Tymchuk Nov. 21, 2015

Nov. 21, 2015

Hi, is Epicea integrated already? If so, is it possible to apply all the changes to code (without doits) since the last image save? I think that it should be really helpful because searching for changes and cherry-picking them is a pain. Later this can be improved, so before the changes are applied you see the condensed diff. Cheers. Uko

SystemAnnouncer class>>#uniqueInstance
by Juraj Kubelka Nov. 21, 2015

Nov. 21, 2015

Hi, The class SystemAnnouncer has #restoreAllNotifications method that is called only by RPackageRenameTest>>setUp. This is pretty strange. I have an impression that tests should not affect global information (singleton). And there are some objects that depends on calling #restoreAllNotifications. I guess that all this staff works thanks to this particular test case. I think this is a bug and correct solution should be: -=-=-=- uniqueInstance "Answer a system annoncer." ^ announcer ifNil: [ announcer := self new. self restoreAllNotifications. announcer ]. -=-=-=- And it should be removed from RPackageRenameTest>>setUp. What do you think? Should I open an issue? Cheers, Juraj

About being a real Pharo Jedi developer
by stepharo Nov. 21, 2015

Nov. 21, 2015

When I was getting to be a Jedi, my Yoda master (Joseph Pelrine) told me the following (yes back in 96) translated from Yoda language: you will be a real Jedi when your code will load in one click! you will be a real Jedi when your code will unload in one click and do not let shit behind it! Simple no. So when do we get real Jedi knights? Stef

Issue with large file path on windows
by Blondeau Vincent Nov. 20, 2015

Nov. 20, 2015

Hello, I would like to read from Pharo a file with a long name (so more than 255 chars) under Windows. A thread from last month (13 oct): "Re: [Pharo-dev] [Vm-dev] Re: issue with large file path on windows", talks about a patch. Does it has been integrated? If it has, which VM should I take to have the patch? My current one is http://files.pharo.org/vm/pharo/win/494.zip Thanks, Vincent Blondeau ________________________________ Ce message et les pi?ces jointes sont confidentiels et r?serv?s ? l'usage exclusif de ses destinataires. Never ending BlockClosure>>benchFor:
by Martin Dias Nov. 20, 2015

Nov. 20, 2015

Hello, I'm trying to understand why this method hangs in certain conditions*. What happens is that the #whileTrue: in the following method is never cut. benchFor: duration "Run me for duration and return a BenchmarkResult" "[ 100 factorial ] benchFor: 2 seconds" | count run started | count := 0. run := true. [ duration wait. run := false ] forkAt: Processor timingPriority - 1. started := Time millisecondClockValue. [ run ] whileTrue: [ self value. count := count + 1 ]. ^ BenchmarkResult new iterations: count; elapsedTime: (Time millisecondsSince: started) milliSeconds; yourself Strangely, I verified with several #logCr that the forked block starts, but the #wait never ends. ---> Maybe you see something I don't in the code. Any clue? I will continue trying to isolate the problem, but maybe you have some idea. * the conditions to reproduce are: 1) curl get.pharo.org/50+vm | bash 2) ./pharo Pharo.image get Epicea 6.5 3) ./pharo Pharo.image test '^(?!Metacello)[A-L].*' Notes: - It doesn't hang when running from UI - it doesn't hang when running less tests, like: pharo Pharo.image test '^(?!Metacello)[E-L].*' - it *does* hang even when removing all Epicea tests - Epicea doesn't extend or override "kernel" behavior... Regards, Martin

Kernel-Tests and SystemAnnouncer
by Andrei Chis Nov. 20, 2015

Nov. 20, 2015

Hi, Ideally shouldn't Kernel-Tests, or tests in general, be silent and not trigger a lot of system announcers? Right now Kernel-Tests trigger around 250 announcements through the SystemAnnouncer. Cheers, Andrei
