model vs interactionModel in rubric
by Andrei Chis Dec. 6, 2015

Dec. 6, 2015

Hi, RubScrolledTextModel fails sometimes if the model does not have an interaction model set. For example in a few places there is a check that verifies if the model understands a message and then the message is send to the interaction model. evaluate: aStream andDo: aBlock .... (self model respondsTo: #doItReceiver) "check on the model" ifTrue: [ rcvr := self model doItReceiver. ctxt := self model doItContext] And then doItReceiver is implemented like: doItReceiver ^ interactionModel ifNotNil: [ :im | im doItReceiver ] "message send to the interaction model" Also in some cases a condition is checked on the model and then the actual result is obtained from the interaction model: (self model systemNavigation allImplementorsOf: aSelector) isEmpty ifTrue: [ self internalCallToBrowse: aSelector ] ifFalse: [ self model interactionModel systemNavigation browseAllImplementorsOf: aSelector ] I'll say these are bugs. Also should a RubScrolledTextModel always have an interaction model? Cheers, Andrei

textColor: overrides the color attribute of the Text object
by Andrei Chis Dec. 6, 2015

Dec. 6, 2015

Hi, Consider the following two code snippet below: [1] (RubScrolledTextMorph new textColor: Smalltalk ui theme textColor; setText: (Text string: 'a b c' attributes: {TextColor green}); yourself) openInWorld. [2] (RubScrolledTextMorph new setText: (Text string: 'a b c' attributes: {TextColor green}); textColor: Smalltalk ui theme textColor; yourself) openInWorld. In the first case the color of the text is the one from the theme, while in the second the color is green. So if set after the text object, the textColor attribute overrides the actual color of the text. Is this the expected behaviour? With PluggableTextMorph the color of the text object always tool priority over the #textColor atribute of the text morph. Cheers, Andrei

Hi, We are using Rubric now nearly everywhere. But there are still some places left where the old PluggableTextMorph is used. I made a TODO with a list of what needs to be done: https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/search/?sSearchFor=outline%3A15596 Marcus

Debian 8 Jessie ia32-libs is not available
by Ben Coman Dec. 6, 2015

Dec. 6, 2015

Installation instructions [1] for Debian 8 Jessie 64-bits currently says... sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ia32-libs sudo apt-get install libx11-6:386 sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 sudo apt-get install libfontconfig1:i386 sudo apt-get install libssl1.0.0:i386 However I get an error... ia32-libs is not available The top answer at [2] describes why... The ia32-libs package was a hack to get 32-bit packages installed on a 64-bit installation. Since Ubuntu version 11.10 (Oneiric), Multi Arch has been added. One of the objectives for it is removing the ia32-libs package. [1] http://pharo.org/gnu-linux-installation [2] http://askubuntu.com/questions/107230/what-happened-to-the-ia32-libs-package and indeed, after removing that line, the following worked for me... sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libx11-6:i386 sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 sudo apt-get install libfontconfig1:i386 sudo apt-get install libssl1.0.0:i386 Could this perhaps be updated on the web site. btw, note that libx11-6:386 is missing an "i" I've logged https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?17198 cheers -ben

context menu keyboard key
by Peter Uhnak Dec. 6, 2015

Dec. 6, 2015

Hi, is there a way to open context menu without using mouse/right click? Keyboards generally have a special key for this, but Pharo doesn't seem to even recognize the keypress. To anyone familiar with this, can this be fixed in image? Or digging into VM is needed? Thanks, -- Peter

Java Future
by S Krish Dec. 6, 2015

Dec. 6, 2015

*Opportunities.. for Pharo..* *The email, sent to InfoWorld on Tuesday by a former high-ranking Java official, claimed to feature details from inside Oracle. It said the company was becoming a cloud company, competing with Salesforce, and âJava has no interest to them anymore.â The subject line cited âJava â planned obsolescence.â* *Oracle is not interested in empowering its competitors and doesnât want to share innovation, the email further alleges. The company is slimming down Java EE (Enterprise Edition), but it also doesnât want anyone else to work on Java or Java EE and is sidelining the JCP (Java Community Process). âThey have a winner-take-all mentality and they are not interested in collaborating,â said the email. âProprietary product work will be done on WebLogic, and thereâll be a proprietary microservices platform.â WebLogic is the Java application server Oracle acquired when it bought BEA Systems in 2008.* https://dzone.com/articles/even-if-oracle-is-losing-interest-in-java-should…
