Character encoding and line ending in OSSubprocess
by Nicolas Passerini Aug. 23, 2016

Aug. 23, 2016

Hi, I am using OSSubprocess for throwing git commands (using Iceberg with the GitFileTree backend), and I find that characters (for example spanish áéÃóúñ) and line endings are not correctly encoded/decoded. Does someone have the same problem? Are we doing something wrong? I am working on linux, and latest Pharo 6. With Guille Polito we tried some time ago a little fix that seemed to work but maybe it needs more testing, and before investing more time on it I thought that it would be a good idea to have more opinions on the topic.

<example>/<examplar>
by stepharo Aug. 23, 2016

Aug. 23, 2016

Hi In my projects I start to do the following: I create <examplar> class method that returns an prototypical instance. I use such methods in my tests as fixture. Then I would like to have nautilus presenting to me the <examplar> with a little triangle and when I press on them I get an inspector on them. This way I get the same behavior than with default <example> methods that open an widget, image.... If we agree on that - I can take all the <example> and turn them if necessary into examplar. - extend Nautilus to send an inspect to the result of examplar tagged method. I think that we can achieve a lot in terms of discovery with such simple changes. Stef PS: I reread the old thread and I think that this is a reasonable approach that makes the pro instances (like me) and the pro examples showing some things (like me) happy.

Usability issue : the class/instance button in Pharo 5 gives poor feedback
by Oscar Nierstrasz Aug. 23, 2016

Aug. 23, 2016

Hi Folks, Does anyone else find this to be a problem? I can never tell whether I am on the class or the instance side as the button toggle is non-obvious. In fact, the (C) is more clearly visible on the instance side, which is counter intuitive. I would rather see the name of the button change between âInstanceâ and âClassâ so I always know where I am. Cheers, Oscar

STON and (default) line endings
by Peter Uhnak Aug. 21, 2016

Aug. 21, 2016

Hi, can we have a class-side configuration for STON line ending? Atm if I want to output with LF instead of CR (which is always), then I have to always do this String streamContents: [ :stream | (STON writer on: stream) prettyPrint: true; newLine: String lf; nextPut: data ]. I would be much happier if at least I could do this STON lineEnding: String lf (I could put the above in a StartupScript) And then just use regular STON toStringPretty: data. And I would be even happier if STON class>>lineEnding ^ String lf or STON class>>lineEnding ^ OSPlatform current isWindows ifTrue: [ String crlf ] ifFalse: [ String lf ] (Although always using LF by default might be preferable.) To summarize, it would be great if we could: * switch STON to LF _by default_ * allow users to easily switch to CR/CRLF if they need Thanks, Peter

Hi I published a new version of the webportal (a packaged version of the mooc) with the help of thibault. Now I'm about to test that all the videos have indeed the correct subtitles. If you want to give me a hand or simply have a look http://rmod-pharo-mooc.lille.inria.fr/MOOC/WebPortal/co/pharo.html Once everything will be verified we will push it to the mooc web page and announce it. Abotu FileReference objects as autoevaluating ones
by stepharo Aug. 21, 2016

Aug. 21, 2016

about https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/18956/FileReference-printString-should-be… 'tmp/foo.txt' asFileReference > File @ tmp/foo.txt and it would be much much better to get back 'tmp/foo.txt' asFileReference So that we can get { 'tmp/foo.txt' asFileReference } > { 'tmp/foo.txt' asFileReference } and not "an Array(File @ tmp/foo.txt)" In addition we should turn the current printOn: method into a displayString method so that a list of fileReference can be well display with File @ tmp/foo.txt for example
