SmallLintRule RBGuardingClauseRule and RBGuardClauseRule
by Nicolai Hess Sept. 7, 2016

Sept. 7, 2016

We have to similar rules RBGuardClauseRule and RBGuardingClauseRule One is a ParseTreeLintRule, the other one is a TransformationRule. I don't know why we have to at all. One rule was "disabled" (or not chown) in the CriticsBrowser because it was removed from the set of all rules before opening CriticsBrowser (see method #allGoodRules). In the past, monty fixed the class comment and #rational for class RBGuardClauseRule to correctly explain what this rule is about. This of course now differes from the similar rule RBGuardingClauseRule. 1. Why do we have both (ok, on can only select the rule violation, whereas the other on does not select it but shows the possible transformation 2. why is the second one now in the set of all rules used by CriticsBrowser 3. what to do ? Remove one, fix the comment and #rational for the second one? nicolai

current athens configuration
by Nicolai Hess Sept. 7, 2016

Sept. 7, 2016

I would like to add a fix for issue 18657 <https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/18657/Rendering-text-in-athens-is-broken> Rendering text in athens is broken But there are many changes and even new configurations of athens in its repository. Those changes aren't yet in Pharo 6. And I don't know which one to take or where to add this fix. Can people who added the latest athens changes (and configuration) please comment on what changes should go into pharo 6 thanks nicolai

finalization
by Ben Coman Sept. 6, 2016

Sept. 6, 2016

I thought I was starting to get a grip on how finalization work. I made this example... Object subclass: #MyObject instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' package: 'Play' MyObject>>autoRelease ^ self class finalizationRegistry add: self MyObject>>finalize Transcript crShow: 'Finalizing MyObject' o := MyObject new autoRelease. o := nil. Smalltalk garbageCollect. ==> 'Finalizing MyObject' So far so good. Extrapolating... I would *expect* this... oc := OrderedCollection new. 10 timesRepeat: [ oc add: Libclang getClangVersion ]. oc removeAll. oc := nil. Smalltalk garbageCollect. ...to print 'Finalizing MyObject' ten times, but it does nothing!! Such a simple example feeds my naive presumption that the system seems broken. So could someone help me interpret this result ? cheers -ben

Can Sound depend on Jobs?
by Sean P. DeNigris Sept. 6, 2016

Sept. 6, 2016

I wanted to add as an extension method to the Sound package: Job>>#beepAtEnd "Sound must first be enabled via `SoundSystem soundEnabled: true.`" self announcer when: JobEnd do: [ SoundSystem current beep ] I figured I'd get some feedback first since I know we're trying to reduce dependencies... ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Can-Sound-depend-on-Jobs-tp4914083.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
