[Pharo-project] Automatic/periodic image saves

Hi, We've deployed a Pharo+Pier/Seaside image for our website, and (naturally) changes are made to the site via Pier. I'd like to know if there is a preferred method of saving the image to disk every, say, 12 hours? Hello all, As far back as I can remember, Dolphin has distinguished between printing and displaying - results of the former are intended for consupmption by developers, the latter is for the benefit of the end user. Dolphin reserves #display:, #displayOn: for end-user-friendly behavior. The _apparent_ (maybe I'm just missing something) absense of this distinction in Squeak/Pharo really bit me in my recent effort to leverage Citezen for my evolving Seaside app. At one point, every pass through an edit feature added a set of quotes to various fields :( I realize that one can simly use #nextPutAll: for strings to avoid the quotes, but there is no polymorphic/intention-revealing alternative for the #displayOn: is taken by Morphic, something I noticed years ago to my great disappointment. To hack around the problem, I added #printForUser: and #printForUserOn:. Is there already an accepted idiom for this? If not, I would strongly suggest adding one; I like the Dolphin selectors, but the collision with Morphic probably favors sometihng along the lines of #printForUser:. What do you think? Bill

[Pharo-project] font spacing problems with merge, patch browser etc

Hi Folks, The merge tool, patch browser and others no longer have enough space to show the version information for both old and new versions. Now there is a ridiculous little scroll space for two lines if version information. [Pharo-project] wikiserver 1.4 beta testers needed

After a week of fun & learning at WWDC 09, I find I need just a few more beta testers for WikiServer 1.4 This is an incremental change that will support import/export of the wiki data to/from the iPhone and to/from a desktop machine, along with adding a bit of security to turn public editing on/off. Being careful I don't want to push the changes live to the app store until I feel there is little change of the update trashing a user's existing wiki data. Frank, If I'm not mistaken the Package Universe will load the latest version of a dependent package ... which can be problematic, if your code doesn't work with the latest version:) I don't believe that issues with FFI are related to the version of the Smalltalk code. It is more likely that FFI problems are related to the vm that you are using and which platform you are on. FFI requires vm mods to work (either a plugin or explicit code) and those mods are invariably os-specific. Early versions of the closure vm may not have supported FFI on all (or any platforms). I seem to recall running into problems in the early days of the closure vm, but at that time there were other issues as well and I haven't revisited FFI since then. If you get past the FFI hurdle, I anticipate that GemTools may run into issues related to the version of OmniBrowser being used in the latest Pharo. GemTools can be sensitive to OmniBrowser changes because there is a specific version of OmniBrowser running in GemStone that communicates with the OmniBrowser running in Pharo. We created the one click GemTools images in an attempt to avoid dealing with the problems of version skew. In the longer term we anticipate that we'll be able to make it possible to roll your own GemTools image, but until then, the one-click is your best bet. http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/list?updated=890 ready for inclusion Use SLICES described in my last comment Sorry I left some garbage in the PharoInbox, but it's quite unhandy to manage incremental dependency (when order of changes DOES matter). Wouldn't atomic loading be an easy solution for such problems? I usually don't complain, but here are my feelings: <rant> Monticello is quite a drag, and pharo feels globally unresponsive (even the core image). I still experiment some lost keystroke and menus are sometimes gooey. It's not rare I click on the wrong item. If 3GHz Intel core2 duo 64 bits really becomes a requirement, I will give Cuis a ride to get some fresh air ;) To me UI feel is mitigating all the good job made so far. </rant> Nicolas

Doing some test fixing I noticed that testWhileModificationBeforeNotInlined not fail.... but I think it should be: Here is the code: testWhileModificationBeforeNotInlined | index block | index := 0. block := [ index := index + 1. collection add: [ index ] ]. [ index < 5 ] whileTrue: block. self assertValues: #(5 5 5 5 5) I think this should produce in collection: #(1 2 3 4 5) ... there's another tests with the block directly as collaborator of the whileTrue: (without temp assignment) that produces the expected output... [Pharo-project] Thing which can help developing brand-new GUI framework

I just thought, that it would be nice having a morph (named WarpGate) which will act as an event sink for any events targeted to it. Then it can translate morphic events to any kind of event, which new framework expecting and dispatch them directly to it.
