[Pharo-project] Failing closures tests
by Adrian Lienhard July 24, 2009

July 24, 2009

Hi Eliot and Lukas There are 9 failing tests in the two classes ClosureCompilerTests and ClosureTests that you wrote. Do they document bugs in the implementation, and if yes, what needs to be done? Thanks, Adrian

Re: [Pharo-project] [ANN] Tutorial: build a custom VM/app/setup for Win32

>Thanks! It's now up on http://squeakvm.org/win32/custom.html (also >linked directly from http://squeakvm.org/win32/) > >Cheers, > - Andreas Hi Andreas, Thanks for uploading! If your time permits it would be nice if you can include a short section on how to catch cmd/. to provide a login dialog (like the qwaq image has) or other tips you may know from your product. This would help people deploy the application but still access the dev tools in production situations. Something that is AFAIK only possible in Smalltalk. Another question: did you already integrate my suggestion for the version ressource in the *.rc file of the VM build? [Pharo-project] [ANN] Tutorial: build a custom VM/app/setup for Win32
by Torsten Bergmann July 24, 2009

July 24, 2009

Hi Andreas and all, as requested and as I promised to deliver in [1] I wrote a short tutorial on how to build a custom application using squeak Smalltalk for windows based systems (including building a custom VM and up to the final setup). Maybe this helps people building apps with Squeak, Cuis or Pharo... I wrote the html page in the style of squeakvm.org, so Andreas should be able to just throw it into "platforms\win32\docs" and all links should work. Feel free to try, correct bugs or add additional stuff. The file is attached. [Pharo-project] Persist a morph in a message.
by nullPointer July 24, 2009

July 24, 2009

Excuse me for my poor english. I´m developing a GUI Builder for Pharo -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHbc1t83fEI One of my problems is the way of persist a morph. Now i use the same way for create a Morph than message #saveOnFile but not saving in a external file else in array of bytes returned for a #spec message. I would know if morphic allow or exists another way of persistence more readable and fast. A complex morph serialized of that way is too slow in load. Juan pointed to me the following CUIS fixes that could interest us. Now I feel not able to check that. Is there somebody good (SIG for example :)) that could spend some time on that? [Pharo-project] speedup to window activation
by Torsten Bergmann July 23, 2009

July 23, 2009

comment from Morphic-Windows-edc.2.mcz in http://source.squeak.org/trunk "Adds a nice speedup to window activation by removing a bit of code intended as optimization but actually causing significnt slowdowns when opening new windows. Speeds up the overall browser benchmark by 20-25%." Maybe someone with a little bit time is able to have a look if this can be applied for pharo too... -- GRATIS für alle GMX-Mitglieder: Die maxdome Movie-FLAT! [Pharo-project] Author class
by Miguel Cobá July 23, 2009

July 23, 2009

I'm fixing a bug in the world menu -> System -> Preferences -> "set author initials". Questions? The package it is Morphic, the class is TheWorldMenu. This package, in the last core image is modified but not commited so when following the steps from the HowToContribute wiki page, in the part of creating a mcz package with the change the mcz generate will include the other uncommited changes. Should I use a changeset instead in order to not commit changes that I don't want? What is the goal with the Author class? I can see that the Utilities methods that used to be use to set author name and initials are being replaced with calls to Author. Also, they are deprecated in Utilities. Questions: Author has name and initials, what will be the intended use of them? By previous mails in the list I remember that Pharo doesn't want to use initials (like mcm, lr, avi) but full name as hinted by the message prompt in the Author requestName. But then initials will have exactly the same that name in the author class? I can unify all the message sends to Author in the core image, also I can unify the initials and name usage, but I need to know the intended goal for this class. What is the goal? Cheers, Miguel Cobá
