Hi - I have done something to my image and don't know how to fix it. When it opens it maximizes one of the processors and allocates a large amount of RAM to itself. When I attempt to run the Debug > Start profiling all Processes it crashes the vm after I move the mouse to the top of the screen. When I run Process allInstancesDo: [ :p | | rules | rules := ProcessBrowser nameAndRulesFor: p. rules second ifTrue: [ p terminate ] "1=name, 2=safe-to-kill, 3=safe-to-debug" ]. from here: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/1799 nothing changes. Printing 'ProcessBrowser new processList' in a workspace gives: a WeakArray(a Process in Delay class>>handleTimerEvent a Process in SystemDictionary>>lowSpaceWatcher a Process in [] in Delay>>wait a Process in WeakArray class>>finalizationProcess a Process in nil a Process in ByteString(String)>>encodeOn: a Process in [] in BlockClosure>>newProcess) And the VM statistics are: uptime 0h8m53s memory 1,055,051,120 bytes old 1,050,497,028 bytes (99.6%) young 83,708 bytes (0.0%) used 1,050,580,736 bytes (99.6%) free 4,470,384 bytes (0.4%) GCs 4,999 (107ms between GCs) full 3 totalling 18,400ms (3.0% uptime), avg 6133.0ms incr 4996 totalling 120,999ms (23.0% uptime), avg 24.0ms tenures 112 (avg 44 GCs/tenure) Are there other things I can do to get it back under control or should I just save everything in some MC repositories and set up a new image? I'm reluctant to do that now because I don't know what I did to create the situation I'm in. Thanks for your help Paul

Hi there, This is my first contribution to PharO :-) I've followed the instructions on the "How to Contribute" page, and there is now a bunch of packages, and a SLICE-package that depends on all of them (named in the subject of this message) in the PharO inbox. One of the packages (KernelTests-PeterHugossonMiller.142.mcz) I have managed to miss the log message, but otherwise I believe I have done everything correctly. I attach screenshots of the TestRunner results run before and after my changes. Hello all, So far, I am one for two on getting ODBC to work on my 64 bit Ubuntu system. I'm using a pre-production (the only option we were given by our IT guys) Cisco vpn that does not support 64 bit systems; enter a 32 bit vpn and some copied libraries. After that fun, I have been able to get isql (unixODBC test utility) to see a MySQL server I have living on a blade machine. That much works. My Pharo image seems unable to talk to it, and I am wondering whether it might be because the library is 64 bit - please excuse me if that's just plain stupid. Of course, so was installing the 64 bit OS<g>, but I figure there will not be an option some day, so I'm trying to get my bad news early. Any ideas about how to proceed? I'm thinking of subclassing ODBCLibrary and tweaking the types (something on the net addresses some changes) to see if I can get some success and then keep going as needed. Does that sound reasonable? Any better ideas? FreeTDS is letting me down talking to a SQL server machine. If anyone has set that up successfully, I would greatly enjoy knowing what you did. Bill

Both these methods suffer from the same problem, and I speculate that this is due to copy/paste. In both cases there is a local variable "response" which is set to a WriteStream on "buf" ( := String new: 2000). However "response" is never written to using the methods on WriteStream, but "buf" is written to directly via the #primSocket:receiveDataInto: method. In several places, "response position" is used to determine how many characters have been read into "buf", and what's worse, the value of "response position" is updated using #instVarAt:put: (!!) The methods have each two possible returns. In one, "response position" is used as the second argument to #copyFrom:to:, and in the other, "response contents" is used to achieve the same effect. In other words, "response" is not being used as a WriteStream, but as a placeholder for an integer: its "position". There is a comment in each method ("horrible, but fast") next to the invocation of #instVarAt:put:, but the true significance has been missed. I have made a new version of the methods using a new temporary variable "position", initialized to 0, and used throughout as an Integer. This reveals the true intent of the method much better than the rather ugly implementations currently in place.
