Re: [Pharo-project] [Seaside] Komanche ?
by Ramiro Diaz Trepat Oct. 11, 2009

Hi Lukas,I am using the latest Pharo, and I have loaded Seaside with ScriptLoader loadSeaside30. I am using it on a Mac with Leopard. I have managed to reuse that port, with random tests and I do not believe there may be causality here, but I will tell you anyway what I did. When this happens, I removed the problematic adaptor from the Seaside Control Panel and created a new one (on the same port), then I tried closing the image and restarting and it did not fix the problem. Although when I closed another non Seaside image I was running and then restarted the problematic image it worked. I wonder now if it is not a mac vm issue or socket issue. Robert, are you also running on a mac? In spite I got the image working again, it is quite worring because we don't know the cause when an image stops answering requests (although the image itself was not hanged at all and kept working fine), and, most weird of all, there is no exception or trace of a fault happening. This is really what is making me wonder if it is not a low level socket issue that never gets to the image for it to throw an exception or anything at all. Cheers r ps: I'm cross posting to Pharo because I believe this is not a Seaside issue. [Pharo-project] Error getting parseTree formattedCode
by Gabriel Brunstein Oct. 11, 2009

I think there is a bug when you try to get the formattedCode of a parseTree. Try this for example: (Set >> #add:) parseTree formattedCode I'm sure it worked correctly in previous versions of pharo. Any idea?

[Pharo-project] Closure fixes have reverted changes in the kernel (again)
by Adrian Lienhard Oct. 11, 2009

Oct. 11, 2009

I started looking at the failing tests and noted that a change (refactoring of how Traits access the changes/sources) in CompiledMethod>>getSourceFor:in: have been reverted. I can fix it, but I wonder which other closure fixes have reverted previous changes that we applied to Pharo-core. What is the easiest way to review the changes of the recent closure fixes introduced to Pharo-core? Since Eliot works against Squeak, I presume, any of his changes may be problematic and has to be reviewed. Cheers, Adrian ___________________ http://www.adrian-lienhard.ch/

[Pharo-project] [ANN] New SqueakDBX release and good news!!!
by Mariano Martinez Peck Oct. 11, 2009

Oct. 11, 2009

Hi folks! We have a couple of things to announce. 1) First of all we gave a ESUG 2009 presentation. You can find the slides here: http://www.slideshare.net/esug/squeak-dbx 2) Then, we created the first version (some bugs, default Pier css, etc) of our website using Seaside + Pier. You can see it temporarily here: http://squeakdbx.smallworks.com.ar However, it will be then: http://www.squeakdbx.org/ Now, the swiki: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6052 is deprecated. 3) Remember we created our own mailing list for questions or whatever you want: http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/squeakdbx 4) There are real interests from other people to port SqueakDBX to dolphin and Smalltalk/X so, we will try to do that easier ;) 5) There is a new release of SqueakDBX: 1.1. The most important thing with this release is that we now support MySQL, PostgreSQL, Sqlite3, Oracle and MSSQL in Windows, Linux and Mac. We also did some refactors which arrived in better performance. You can see the complete changeset here: http://squeakdbx.smallworks.com.ar/ChangeLog The OpenDBX version you need is 1.4.4. You can compile or use the binaries. Here you have the instructions to install OpenDBX: http://squeakdbx.smallworks.com.ar/Compiling%20and%20installing%20OpenDBX SqueakDBX installing instructions: http://squeakdbx.smallworks.com.ar/Installation As always, any feedback, comments or whatever is more than welcome. Best, Mariano

[Pharo-project] [ANN] New Aconcagua & Chalten packages
by Torsten Bergmann Oct. 9, 2009

Reminds me again how close Smalltalk comes to the real world. Dont know if the interest rate of 0.1 is still valid after the financial crisis ;) but I always liked this natural expression style of Smalltalk: initialCapital := 100 dollars. interestRate := 0.1 / 1 year. Especially the ease of "1 year", "1 month" or "Date today". If you ever worked with the date and calendar mess in Java you know what I'm talking about. I can even write: 100 m2 100 USD 100 EUR 100 ⬠Unfortunately I cant (yet) write unary messages like this in Smalltalk: 100 $ 100 % Wonder why not. Parser gives "Message pattern expected", maybe because of unary vs. binary. Have to think about it ... -- GRATIS für alle GMX-Mitglieder: Die maxdome Movie-FLAT!
