[Pharo-project] FFI tests
by Schwab,Wilhelm K April 6, 2010

April 6, 2010

Hello all, Is anyone having success with the FFI tests on Linux? I have been having some weird problems with an RC1 image and noted that many of the tests fail in it. My image builder is almost ready for another attempt at making a newer image, and I will prioritize the tests. I also have an idea or two on how to try to reproduce the problems I am having. Bill

[Pharo-project] Linux VM microbenchmarks
by laurent laffont April 6, 2010

April 6, 2010

Hi, Thanks to people who send the results of tinyBenchmarks for various CPU, here's the report. What I want to know is whether these results are crap or "normal". It seems that all people succeed in compiling the VM with the source provided. So it may be a candidate for Pharo 1.0 ? The procedure to build the VM was: wget http://lolgzs.free.fr/pharo/squeak-vm/Squeak-3.11.3.2135-pharo-src.tar.gz tar -xvzf Squeak-3.11.3.2135-pharo-src.tar.gz cd Squeak-3.11.3.2135-pharo-src/ mkdir build && cd build ../unix/cmake/configure --CFLAGS="-O2" make The results: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 64 bits =============================================== 432 M bytecodes/sec; 13 M sends/sec Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz 64 bits =============================================== 424 M bytecodes/sec; 13 M sends/sec Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz 32 bits =============================================== 389 M bytecodes/sec; 10.5 M sends/sec Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz 32 bits =============================================== 330 M bytecodes/sec; 9.2 M sends/sec Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz 64 bits (CFLAGS = -O3) =============================================== 331 M bytecodes/sec; 8.9 M sends/sec Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz 64 bits (CFLAGS = -O2) =============================================== 106 M bytecodes/sec; 3.4 M sends/sec Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz 32 bits =============================================== 220 M bytecodes/sec; 7.6 M sends/sec Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz 32 bits =============================================== 93 M bytecodes/sec; 5.5 M sends/sec AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ =============================================== 87 M bytecodes/sec; 4.5 M sends/sec Laurent Laffont

Re: [Pharo-project] A port of Pharo: Redline Smalltalk ..

Smalltalk is the entire interactive environment. > >It would be fairly simple to get a syntax parser, but it wouldn't be > >Smalltalk. It would be Ruby or Python with Smalltalk syntax. > >Somewhat useful perhaps, but not really Smalltalk. > That is so true! Smalltalk is more than just flat text in an editor, which is why Redline Smalltalk is different. I'm trying to bring out some new features that would even make die-hard Smalltalk environment users envious, and at the same time not make barriers to an uptake by more developers. > Sorry, but I believe that it is the way that had to take commercial > Smalltalk. It surprises to me that Cincom and company do not see it. Well I'd be really happy to do this full-time with Cincom support (if they are listening), and if it can remain free and open source. Cincom? Re: [Pharo-project] How do i import .MCZ into Squeak?
by James Ladd April 6, 2010

Hi Pharo, I got the .MCZ package installed, but there is a dependency on RBProgramNode which I can't find. I'm looking for the package / source for RBProgramNode, which I think could just be a image version issue. Is it? Rgs, James. Hi, 2010/4/6 Dan Ingalls <Dan(a)squeakland.org>: > I think you know of my JSqueak project (a.k.a. The VM also includes an optimisation for Large...Integer objects, utilising Java BigIntegers as shadows. HPI students once approached a JIT compiler (not finished); the code is available by request. Best, Michael

[Pharo-project] Sugar Theme
by Hilaire Fernandes April 5, 2010

April 5, 2010

Hello, I have designed a first -- not finished yet -- Sugar theme for Polymorph http://www.squeaksource.com/SugarTheme.html It is only for pharo 1.1 (not sure it works as expected with 1.0) because polymorph was updated by Gary to help. With the support of Gary, I look at contributing more improvment in the future. Hilaire

[Pharo-project] [update 1.1] #11309
by stephane ducasse April 5, 2010

April 5, 2010

11309 ----- - Issue 2271: Scanner doesNotUnderstand: #ambiguousSelector:inRange: 1) Fix http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=2271 which is also http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7491 2) replace slow asSortedCollection with faster asArray sort (from Squeak) Note that Behavior of 1@-1 is different from Squeak. Squeak favours backward compatibility in case of ambiguity. Pharo always send @- - Issue 2277: requestorOffset initialization is out of order - Issue 2275: URI comment + tests - Issue 2278: Obsolete class in 11308 Stef (I'm in house renovation mode - painting... so I will integrate a bit less frequently during the holidays).
