[Pharo-project] Iliad 0.8.1 released
by Nicolas Petton May 13, 2010

May 13, 2010

Hi, We just released Iliad 0.8.1. This is a bug fix release with small improvements. Especially, we fixed an annoying bug related with session expiration, and improved Formula with global conditions and errors. The Comet API changed a bit too, you can read a blog post about it: http://smalltalk.gnu.org/blog/nico/iliad-applications-comet We also removed all hard-coded javascript generated in HTML pages. The javascript layer is now entirely responsible for automatic AJAX. We encourage everyone using Iliad 0.8 to upgrade to 0.8.1. - GNU Smalltalk There are now 2 git repositories and GNU Smalltalk projects, one for the stable branch and another one for the development branch. gst-package --download iliad -t ~/.st #latest stable release gst-package --download iliad-dev -t ~/.st #development branch The git repository for the stable branch can be browsed at: http://github.com/NicolasPetton/iliad-stable - Pharo Pharo users can install Iliad 0.8.1 with Metacello as explained on this page: http://www.iliadproject.org/pages/Download/Squeak-Pharo-port Cheers, Nico

[Pharo-project] Preparing Pharo-Core for i18n framework
by Hilaire Fernandes May 13, 2010

May 13, 2010

To be compatible with the gettext package I have pushed in Inbox Collection-Strings and System-Localization changes. After the changes, NaturalLanguageTranslator becomes in core a dummy class responding to two dummy messages. This dummy class is later replaced by the real one when the developer loads the gettext package String>>translate reflect this change. I really don't know how to load these two package in Pharo without breaking the image. The only possibility I see is to first hand edit String>>translated to respond self, then load System-Localisation and Collection-String from Inbox. Tiny hand edit. We should get this tiny changes in as the Seaside people seems to need it as well. Hilaire

[Pharo-project] VMs for Pharo 1.1
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 13, 2010

May 13, 2010

Hi folks. We are moving on and we need to update VMs for Pharo 1.1. I would like to know the status of each platform and where to get them: Windows: I remember a new version 4.1 or similar that Andreas did. I remember there was a problem with the windows closing or similar...but I remember Torsten fixed that. Is that integrated in Pharo ? We are able to use that VM ? Torsten, where can I get a Pharo 1.1 Windows VM ? does it include FreeType ? can you update the splash if necessary ;) Linux: It would be cool to use a new vm, build form scratch. Laurent, I know this seems to be easy now. Is there any current/known problem ? where can I get a working vm with all the gnufication code and FreeType ? How is the speed finally in compare to other vms ? Mac: John, I am not sure which VM we should use for Pharo 1.1. Can you give us a hint ? known problems ? does it include freetype ? The idea (actually, just my opinion) is to upload these "latests" and Pharo 1.1 candidate vms to the website so that we can start to test. Soon (thanks a lot to Alexandre Bergel) we will be able to release a first unstable Pharo 1.1. Cheers Mariano

[Pharo-project] object that create other objects [meta-object]?
by magique poter May 13, 2010

May 13, 2010

Hello, First sorry for my bad english. I will try to be understandable:) I have a problem that is, I think, enouth interesting (and difficult to found responses on the web) to post here. I hope somebody will understand it, and point my attention to some keywords, or web links. Here is my interrogation: - in smaltalk, everything is object, - i create classes whith the browser (an object), - then there are objects in smalltalk that create classes. Question: - What are the keywords, the technologies I will have to deal with to create that kind of objetcts (object that create classes that I can then initialize to create instances)? - After lot of search, the thing I want to create seams to be a meta-object. But how do we do in practice? - Do you have some books to recommand to understand this programming practice? Thanks in advance. Best regards
