[Pharo-project] Problem in Pharo 1.1 (Igor?) : You have reached the size limit of the changes file.
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 17, 2010

May 17, 2010

Hi. I have the following error: 'You have reached the size limit of the changes file. You must take action now to reduce it. Close this error. Do not attempt to proceed.' I know this is a known error, but I thought that with Igor's new method trailer this was fixed. Tested in 11355 Thanks Mariano

[Pharo-project] ConfigurationOfExternalWebBrowser working in Squeak and Pharo trunk

[Pharo-project] [ANN] Traits installer/uninstaller utility
by Johan Fabry May 16, 2010

May 16, 2010

Hi all, this is a small package that I wrote after doing a traits-based refactoring of AspectMaps (Plug: Check out AspectMaps for a cool visualization of Aspects. http://pleiad.cl/aspectmaps. It has nice screencasts. All comments welcome!) AspectMaps extends a number of classes of FAMIX to do its thing, using standard class extensions. This works OK when you are not using traits. But when using a trait, you need to redef the class, i.e. change the original package (in this case one of the moose packages). A big no-no. This kind of change should also be encapusulated in the AspectMaps package, but currently this is not possible. So, as long as traits and packages dont play well together, these kinds of refactorings are out. However not so when you are using the TraitsApplication package. This package provides a means to programmatically install/uninstall traits. Call it in a post-load action on a package (if such a thing exists), in a class initialize method, et cetera (for AspectMaps I do it in the AspectMaps>>open method). I thought this could be useful to some members of the community so I am releasing it publicly. You can find it at http://www.squeaksource.com/TraitsApplication CAVEAT: This is a quick implementation, it is non-optimal. It can be made much more elegant, but that requires time that I dont have right now :-(. I does not handle fancy trait compositions (yet). I give no guarantees other than that 1) it passes all of its tests 2) it works for me :-) So check it out. Comments are welcome! -- Johan Fabry jfabry(a)dcc.uchile.cl - http://dcc.uchile.cl/~jfabry PLEIAD Lab - Computer Science Department (DCC) - University of Chile

[Pharo-project] ConfigurationOfExternalWebBrowser working in Squeak and Pharo trunk
by Torsten Bergmann May 16, 2010

May 16, 2010

Hi Sean, Why do you rerelease the ConfigurationOfExternalWebBrowser that was already working in Squeak and Pharo in an own repository and reanounce it? The ConfigurationOfExternalWebBrowser was created and is still maintained in squeaksource/MetacelloRepository ... I think this adds more confusion ... Re: [Pharo-project] [Pharo-users] Newbie: Does Socket ping: 'addr' work in Pharo3.11.8 ?
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 16, 2010

May 16, 2010

Hi guys. No, it doesn't work for me neither. I have checked in Pharo 1.0 and 1.1 with both: useOldNetwork as true and false. I have debugged a little the: Socket ping: 'localhost' And the problem I found is that after calling "connectNonBlockingTo: hostAddress port: port" self primSocketConnectionStatus: socketHandle. should answer something different thanUnconnected ( 0 ), like WaitingForConnection (1) or Connected (2) check Socket class >> initialize So....I should see in VM side why primSocketConnectionStatus: socketHandle. may be returning 0 (unconnected). Now...if I ping Socket ping: 'www.google.com' The result is different as I get WaitingForConnection (1) instead of 0....but it loops forever as I always get 1 and never 2....see the loop [(status = WaitingForConnection) and: [(msecsEllapsed := Time millisecondsSince: startTime) < msecsDelta]] whileTrue: [ semaphore waitTimeoutMSecs: msecsDelta - msecsEllapsed. status := self primSocketConnectionStatus: socketHandle]. in the method waitForConnectionFor: timeout ifTimedOut: timeoutBlock I will continue to check, but my knowledge in this area is almost nil. [Pharo-project] Installing and testing Seaside 2.8.4, Magritte and Pier in Pharo 1.1
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 16, 2010

May 16, 2010

Hi seasideers. I was loading all this stuff of PharoCore 1.1 and see if everything seems to be working. At this is the case :) However, I have 2 tests with errors and this is due to send to BlockClosure >> fixTemps which is deprecated in Pharo 1.1 The fix is easy, just remove the send of fixTemps, but I am not sure the impact of this in other dialects. But would be cool not to have the deprecated warning when loading. The places are Amb >> oneOf: aCollection and Amb >> valueOfOneOf: blockCollection Then I have two failing but I don't understand why: WABacktrackingTest >> testOrderedCollection I don't know why here, but after "original removeLast." snapshot has the elements "1" and "nil" instead of "1" and "2", and thus, it fails in self assert: original asArray = #(1 2) The other is: WABacktrackingTest >> testDictionary It is failing in "self assert: (original at: 1 ifAbsent: []) = #a." because original shows -> a Dictionary(2->#b 3->#d ) I know your effort is now in Seaside3 but having all green tests with Pharo 1.1 would be really cool :) Last thing, if you want to test it, just take a PharoCore 1.1 image, for example: https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/26995/PharoCore-1.1-11357-UNSTABLE… And then evaluate: (Smalltalk at: #Gofer) new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfSeaside'; load. ConfigurationOfSeaside project latestVersion load: 'Seaside 2.8'. and run tests :) Thanks Mariano

Actually that was for breaking encapsulation as NetNameResolver does not have a setter for such class variable. To do a quick test just implement a class side method in NetNameResolver like this: useOldNetwork: aBoolean UseOldNetwork := aBoolean And then evaluate: NetNameResolver useOldNetwork: true. > With the Pharo 1.1 image you linked me to, the message was understood, but > had no effect. > > I still cannot get Socket>>ping: to work; it always times out. > > Ok...the network package is not the best in Pharo and we had several problems :( > And yes, I meant the OS command window ping worked. [Pharo-project] Pharo logo
by Geoffroy Couprie May 16, 2010

May 16, 2010

Hello, Where can I find a vectorial version of the Pharo logo? The media files downloadable on pharo-project.org are only in PNG and TIF. I would like to use the logo for a custom UITheme :) Best regards, Geoffroy

Where you can successfully ping ? what's is a command window? do you mean DOS or somehow outside Pharo? Can you try the same after evaluating: NetNameResolver classVarNamed: 'UseOldNetwork' put: true Can you try also the same but using a PharoCore 1.1 image (you can use the same VM): https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/26995/PharoCore-1.1-11357-UNSTABLE… Thanks! [Pharo-project] Anyone wants to put style to the welcome workspace?
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 16, 2010

May 16, 2010

Hi folks. Any volunteer to make the welcome workspace nicer? Now it is just plane text. Maybe adding some style to title, colors etc may be cool. I don't know how to do it, neither I have too much time. If you want to see where it is such code it is in DEVImageWorkspaces >> openWelcomeWorkspace in the package ImageForDevelopers-pharo from the repository http://www.squeaksource.com/ImageForDevelopers Thanks in case someone can help.
