[Pharo-project] glamorous theme :)
by Tudor Girba Sept. 7, 2010

Sept. 7, 2010

Hi, Over the past week I worked on a new theme for Pharo called the Glamorous Theme :). The theme is developed in the context of the Glamour project, and its goal is to create a look that: - does not look like a specific operating system. In particular, the icons should be operating system agnostic, because, for example, people in Windows are confused by the red, yellow, green buttons of apple. - uses a limited amount of colors and effects. It is still work in progress, but you can get the current version by executing: Gofer new squeaksource: 'Glamour'; package: 'Glamour-Morphic-Theme'; load. GLMUITheme defaultSettings: nil. GLMUITheme beCurrent. GLMUITheme setPreferredWorldBackground. Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Problem solving efficiency grows with the abstractness level of problem understanding."

[Pharo-project] [Moose-dev] glamorous theme :)

This is something I have to disagree strongly with. Choice in themes does not work for us. We don't have the manpower to maintain them. In user interfaces, consistency is good, and I want one good theme, not ten bad or mediocre. Stephan Eggermont

[Pharo-project] Experimental Cocoa OS-X based Squeak Cog JIT VM 5.8b9
by John M McIntosh Sept. 7, 2010

Sept. 7, 2010

I've stuck a version (5.8b9) of the cocoa based os-x squeak cog JIT based VM in my experimental folder. http://homepage.mac.com/johnmci/.Public/experimental/Squeak%205.8b9.app.zip Changes are: (a) Slight changes to the Open/GL code in hopes to make it work better on 10.5 machines (b) Add ioUtcWithOffset (c) Application quit menu, quit from dock, or window close now triggers a Areithfa Ffenestri window event saying the window is closing. Most images (I guess?) look for that and prompt the user to save or not-save the image and/or quit. People producing Squeak Images should confirm the behaviour is what they expect. (d) print problems with cmd-shift-key not correctly working CMD-SHIFT-n as an example. (e) Code sign app -- =========================================================================== John M. [Pharo-project] Redirect compiler warnings to file
by Simon Denier Sept. 7, 2010

Sept. 7, 2010

Hi When loading large chunks of code (like Moose), some warnings appear in the Transcript. The problem is the Transcript has a limited size and that with all information dumped into, the first one get lost before we can take a look at them. Does anyone know a way to capture/redirect the Transcript output to a file, or the output from Compiler (maybe using the requestor parameter?) -- Simon

So you are requested to vote for the best book of the last 5 years. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Q2LKKDT Stef on the behalf of the ESUG board.

[Pharo-project] Please help!! Error: There is no free space in this set!'
by Mariano Martinez Peck Sept. 7, 2010

Sept. 7, 2010

I know this is a alraedy known issue: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=1628 I am trying to make SqueakDBX work in 1.1 and it doesn't work because of this. Each DBXConnection is registered in the WeakRegistry just to close the database connection in case they don't do it explicitly. This this, I have a: addObjectToGarbageCollect: anObject WeakRegistry default add: anObject. And in DBXConnetion >> connect, I call that method. Do you know how to solve the problem? I read the issue but I am uncertain what should I do nor if it is fixed. I think this bug is really important. Thanks Mariano

[Pharo-project] Single instance executables
by Schwab,Wilhelm K Sept. 6, 2010

Sept. 6, 2010

Hello all, I realize that I hold an unpopular position on this, but it *will* come back to haunt us: we need to have a way to warn the user if a second copy of Pharo is launched. Random meltdowns and lost work will result from the current behavior. Let me be more bold: lost work and random corrrupted images *are resulting* from the current behavior; they are either unrecognized, or simply ignored, but it is happening. Is there a way to fix it? On Windows, I recall creating an OS semaphore with a given name and if that exists, bail out before the session even gets going. We would need a cross-platform way to do that (or at least a Linux/Mac way to do it - Windows has a mechanism), and then a place to abort startup early enough to prevent problems. Any ideas? Bill

[Pharo-project] Object visitor
by Martin Dias Sept. 6, 2010

Hi, We want to do some processing over the graph of object references. Do you recommend an implementation of visitor pattern to iterate object instance variables? Best regards, Martin and Tristan
