Hi, an idea I haven't found the courage to implement but may not be hard and can have an impact (at least fun to code). - Write / put a chat server on seasidehosting|INRIA|whatever - Pharo image includes a chat client per default - uses Author as nickname So as soon as we open an image we are connected to other users. Can be interesting in courses as students are directly connected to *real* developpers while learning (and students love to chat :). So we can exchange snippets instantly, ask questions, ... I might be nice for the appearance of all controls, windows etc. to adhere to a standard set of UI states as identified: Enabled Enabled Mouse over Enabled Mouse down inside Enabled Mouse down outside (*) Enabled Selected Enabled Selected Mouse over Enabled Selected Mouse down inside Enabled Selected Mouse down outside (*) Disabled Disabled Mouse over (*) Disabled Mouse down inside (*) Disabled Mouse down outside (*) Disabled Selected Disabled Selected Mouse over (*) Disabled Selected Mouse down inside (*) Disabled Selected Mouse down outside (*) And repeat for additional "inactive" (non-primary/top window) (*) indicates a nice to have, rather than strictly necessary... Thoughts appreciated beforehand. Anything missing, suggestions for fallback (don't want to have to do all for everything)?... Perhpas worth a tutorial/help/etc. for those making new widgets. I'm sure I discussed this with Igor before, but not sure I had a response. Regards, Gary

>From what i know, it has more to do with having smaller sized vm's, than >with efficiency reasons. Yes, and with security. Thats why FFI is external. If you remove it all code (downloaded or not) can only use built in primitives and its not possible to call OS API's and harm your computer. I've stuck a version (5.8b3) of the cocoa based os-x squeak cog JIT based VM in my experimental folder. http://homepage.mac.com/johnmci/.Public/experimental/Squeak%205.8b3.app.zip This VM is built from the Cog sources (with some minor changes for the iPhone) & revised & fixed Socket Plugin. It currently does NOT contain any external plugins. I did check in the changes to squeakvm.org that are required to build this VM excluding the required Cog changes... People are invited to take it for a whirl, report any performance gains, issues and especially crashes. PS (a) yes shortly we'll get the iPhone changes folded back into the source tree so you can build the VM. (b) yes when resizing a window you get neat graphic effects (fixing that issue is non-trival). (c) As time permits we'll look into rebuild this rather long list of plugins. Hello everyone ^^ After a week in ESUG and thanks to Alain and Tobias, I've improved the Finder tool :) To test it, you have to download : Gofer new squeaksource: 'PharoTaskForces'; package: 'NullTextStyler'; load Gofer new squeaksource: 'PharoTaskForces'; package: 'DialogItemsChooser'; load and the last but not the least : Gofer new squeaksource: 'PharoTaskForces'; package: 'Finder'; load It works only on Pharo 1.2 and you will probably have an error due to an issue about PluggableTextMorph : http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=2973 To open it, just click World >> Tools >> Finder Ben
