[Pharo-project] Which Keymaps/Shortcuts do we want to have?
by Guillermo Polito Dec. 27, 2010

Dec. 27, 2010

Which shortcuts would you like to have, and how should they be launched? We can choose combinations such as (ctrl + a, ctrl + b) Close window - ctrl + w? Minimize window - ctrl + ??? Maximize window - ctrl + ??? Open browser - ctrl + ? Open Monticello browser ? Go to next window? My idea is to: - get an idea of what kind of keymaps do we want - build them using Keymapping, so I can test it well with a nice set of shortcuts - gradually replace hardcoded shortcuts with Keymappings (at least to have an extension to load to do this) Merry christmas :) (Here is 9 pm yet, hehe) Guille

[Pharo-project] can't edit any methods
by Elliot Finley Dec. 27, 2010

Dec. 27, 2010

I'm working on a project that I started in the Seaside-3.0-One-Click image (Mac OSX). When Seaside 3.0.2 was released, I moved my project to a new 3.0.2 one-click image. No problems. When Seaside 3.0.3 was released, I moved my project to a new 3.0.3 one-click image. Now I can't edit anything. When I try, I get: NonBooleanReceiver: proceed for truth. (how do I copy-n-paste the stack dump?) moving my project = saving to FTP site via monticello and loading it into the new one-click image and loading the auto-test package. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Elliot

[Pharo-project] SQueakLite project
by Mariano Martinez Peck Dec. 26, 2010

Dec. 26, 2010

Hi. Just by chance, I was surfing the net, and I found the SQueakLite project. It uses SqueakDBX to talk to MySql, Oracle and PostgreSQL!!! This is so cool :) And I didn't even received a single question from them...so, developers of SQueakLite are you in this mailing list? but it is really cool that you could make it work, develop something on top of SqueakDBX, and run it in 3 dbs, without asking anything? excellent!! ahhh links: https://agora.cs.illinois.edu/display/cs598rejsu10/SQueakLite+README https://agora.cs.illinois.edu/display/cs598rejsu10/SQueakLite cheers mariano

[Pharo-project] Tron: thought you might be interested (though you probably already know)
by Chip Nowacek Dec. 26, 2010

Dec. 26, 2010

Know the inspiration for Tron? None other than Smalltalk inventor Alan Kay. His wife, Bonnie MacBird <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnie_MacBird>, is a co-creator of Tron and says Alan provided the underpinnings of the story. So, when you go see Tron Refactored, remember it's just Smalltalk on the big screen. I thought it was cool anyway.

Re: [Pharo-project] [Seaside] Problem with Seaside: Pharo is almost out of memory

As Sebastian said, most of the times this error is due to a recursion :( do you have a PharoDebug.log ? if true, attach it. It's a pity it is on startup, because otherwise there may be other things you can do. For example, you may be able to start a CPUWatcher and see if there is a process that takes a lot of CPU (if it is a recursion it may probably take not only a lot of memory but also cpu). [Pharo-project] Confused making my first Pharo contribution
by Tony Fleig Dec. 26, 2010

Dec. 26, 2010

I am confused. I have some changes to MailMessage (a Pharo class) and WAEmailMessage (a Seaside class) and an extension to MailMessage (the method MailMessage>>seasideEmailMessage:from:to:subject:) that I would like to contribute. These changes allow multi-part MIME messages to be created and sent from a Seaside web applicationfo -- r example messages with an HTML part and a plain text part. Following the instructions at http://code.google.com/p/pharo/wiki/HowToContribute, I am installing my changes into Pharo 1.2 in preparation for creating a Monticello package for PharoInbox. Here are my problems: 1. One of the steps is "File in your changes and test." I have test classes derived from Sunit. Pharo 1.2 core doesn't seem to include Sunit. Should I test manually and not include the Sunit tests in the package I submit? 2. I assume the MailMessage extension described above belongs in a Seaside update. Is this true? 3. The Seaside changes cannot load without first loading the Pharo changes since the multi-part message is created using Pharo's MailMessage . How is this kind of dependency handled? Should I wait for a Seaside distribution on a version of Pharo that includes my changes before submitting the Seaside package? It seems like this could take a long time. 4. Should I make this a Seaside-only package and extend Pharo's MailMessage in that package? Any advice will be appreciated. Cheers, TF

[Pharo-project] Why Smalltalk ? Which Smalltalk ?
by Sven Van Caekenberghe Dec. 26, 2010

Dec. 26, 2010

I just came across these and I think they are very well written. Why Smalltalk ? http://smalltalkzen.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/why-smalltalk/ Which Smalltalk ? http://smalltalkzen.wordpress.com/2010/08/24/which-smalltalk/ I agree mostly with both pieces, they express reasonably well how I see things. I don't know the author's name though... Sven
