Hi. We have recently discussed in a couple of threads about serialization & class renames. I want to ask you for the following case, because I'm not sure what should be the expected result. Suppose we serialize: Array with: OldClass new with: OldClass with: #OldClass. Then, we specify to the materializer that OldClass has been renamed to NewClass. Now, should we expect that result first -------> a NewClass second --> NewClass third ------> #NewClass or... result third ------> #OldClass ? In other words, should a class rename affect to every symbol in the graph? Thanks, MartÃn

Hi guys, What if the order of method categories in System browser would be a bit more clever and not just alphabetical? By clever I mean that private* categories are always on bottom while initialize* on top. And so on.. This can be settable in Settings, switched on by default. What do you think? Hi guys, Isn't a time come to finally rename this unfortunate method #name in Object to something more internal? From its comment it seems it is using just for debugging: Object>>name "Answer a name for the receiver. This is used generically in the title of certain inspectors, such as the referred-to inspector, and specificially by various subsystems. By default, we let the object just print itself out.. " ^self printString I namely just crashed my image and spend quite some time to find why, by implementing: MyClass>>printString ^'aMyClass', self name Later I renamed #name to say #myName but forgot to rename a call in this #printString method too. Boom, infinite recursion! Please allow us therefore to use #name in our classes for things a word "name" is meant! Igor, is this a bug? When parsing methods that send native functions withouth arguments , void, theres a DNU. For example in the following method: ^ self pangoCairoNbCall:#(PangoCairoFontMap pango_cairo_font_map_get_default ( void ) ) I fixed it like this: usesMethodArguments "first check wether my single argument is void" ^(fnSpec arguments size = 1 ==> [fnSpec arguments first class ~= NBVoid]) and:[ fnSpec arguments anySatisfy: [:type | type loader usesSTStack ] ] Fernando

Hi guys, What if you enhance search in System Browser so that results will be shown instantly and *in the same browser* (not in new window)? That is, classes matching criteria and their categories are shown instantly as you type in search line. Or with some small delay, like 0.5s. Or: to drop down results instantly as you type, as you have on Google search. After you select some choice, this class is shown immediately in the same browser window. This would be a nice UX improvement for 1.4, in my opinion :) Of course back button and tabs would be really a big step forward ... [Pharo-project] Old smalltalker is slightly lost

15 years ago I did a lot in Smalltalk, and have done some recreational meta programming along the way. However, I now wanted to do something where I was in need of drawing a diagram with x and y axes on what I presume might be called a Canvas. I lack a simple tutorial to get me started. I have looked at many, but they seem to presume I want to draw on the world "openInWorld". I should like not to scatter my world with line fragments and points, but keep it inside a "normal" window with borders, a background color (i.e. not a see through window). I have gone dead in two approaches. First attempt is to use a SystemWindow, and then draw on the canvas I presume is there somewhere. I have just not been able to figure out how to find the canvas of that SystemWindow, nor what method presumeable does the painting. Second attempt is to use a SystemWindow, and then add (addMorph:) line and circle morphs for my diagram. But it seems something is missing in my understanding there as well. While it is fun that I can open circles and other stuff in "world", it is not what I need. Hi guys. Somethine is very strange. I cannot do ScriptLoader new cleanUpForRelease because I get an error saying MessageNotUnderstood: ByteSymbol>>run:with:in: So....all the info is here: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=5005 I checked and it is not related to methodDictionary rehash..... so, do you have in mind what can we be doing in cleanUpForRelease which causes tu put symbols in the value of the association of a MethodDictionary rather than a CompiledMethod ???
