Hi Igor and other NB Gurus, A group of students is trying to use NativeBoost to wrap the OpenCV C image library. The problem we are facing is that the function cvSize return a struct. typedef struct { int width; int height; } CvSize; CV_INLINE CvSize cvSize( int width, int height ); But the NBExternalStructure seems to not support that if I understood correctly. NBExternalStructure>>coerceReturn: gen " ... should we support handling return of external structures? " self error: 'returning pointer to structure?' Did I miss something? Any idea or workaround? [Pharo-project] Command Line Handling

I've played a lot with the new command line argument handling. Here's a few thoughts: * I think we should not allow the use of raw handler names (e.g. 'eval') and restrict ourselves to flags. For example, disallow 'eval' and stick to '-e' or '--evaluate'. The raw name introduces ambiguity in parsing the command line, especially since custom commands can be added at will that may conflict and see next item... * The current implementation chooses the single matching handler with the highest priority, but usually command line tools may have multiple non-conflicting flags * The priority concept seems premature. It adds complexity and confusion (the handler for a specific flag is not obvious because it emerges from an interaction of all the handlers). Maybe a registry would be better? [Pharo-project] Question regarding: #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event:

Hello all I am trying to build a nested menu and #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event: seemed to be just the thing I need. But it gives me troubles: It builds the menu starting with the outermost morph an then adds submenus for the submorphs under the mouse. If I understand this correctly, then the menu- construction comes to halt when there is a submorph, which does not want to contribute to the menu, even when a sub-submorph wants to contribute something. I have this situation and the submorph in question is a plain Morph and I hesitate to create an extra class for it. Wouldn't it be better to let #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event: find ALL Morphs which might want to contribute to the menu? Is there a better way of constructing menus with several contributors, or should I roll my own? -- Martin

[Pharo-project] Some Newbie problems

Hi, I'm trying to work my way through the Pharo by example book on my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS box. Unfortunately, things in the book don't look like they do on my setup. For example, I can't work out what the key combination is to get the 'Morphic Halo'. I can get it from a menu, but not from a key press combination. Also, calling: BouncingAtomsMorph new openInWorld doesn't work. I just get an error message saying that there is no such object. I thought these problems might be due to me having the standard image instead of the Pharo by Example image. So I downloaded that image but when I call Pharo on that image: $ ./pharo ../Resources/PBE.image I just get a segmentation fault. I'm a complete newbie (but an experienced programmer in a variety of OO and other languages), so if anyone could shed any light on this, I'd be very grateful. Hello all, in my (first) pharo programm, I have a pane with apx 100 Morphs. The pane can be zoomed and scrolled both vertically and horizontally. The horizontal scrolling means scrolling time and is self-written. I implemented some sort of kinetic scrolling using the mouse wheel, where a scroll destination is set and in a step method I halve the distance to the destination with each step. This looks kind of nice, but not nice enough. Scrolling is not as smooth as I had hoped. Sometimes there is a delay between the wheel move and the display actually showing some motion. Also I have the impression, that not all parts of the pane are redrawn at the same time. Morphs which are exactly below each other, appear minimally skewed during the scroll. Strange enough the zooming, which has to do about the same underlying geometry calculations is a lot more snappy (but not kinetic). Likewise the vertical scrolling which used a StandardScrollPane appears more snappy. I looks like using a stepper is the root of the problem. I just could not figure out where the time goes. I put a MessageTally into the step method, only to find out, that doing 1000 steps takes less than a second. So the problem must be elsewehere. Any ideas would be much appreciated. -- Martin

Hi, Â I'm working on a seaside image. I stopped the zinc server before saving and quitting but unfortunately, when I reopen my image, the server is on and listening. So I inspected ZnZincServerAdaptor and tried to kill references using "explore pointers". Unfortunately I killed too much; now, when I start the image I have a startup error, it seems SmalltalkImage try to startup WAServerManager but I can't figure out why. Hints? Hi guys here is a digest of a discussion in VW mailing-list. would be nice to have somebody looking and thinking about that. For example the work of Markus Gaelli for sorting falling tests was lost and this is a pity. Stef ------------------------------------------------------------ You might also want to look at Assessments (bundle of the same name in the public Store repository, MIT license). It offers a much more flexible implementation of a basic test framework, which is then used to execute tests from three different variants of SUnit (SUnit, SUnitToo, and SUnitVM) without needing to modify or override or reparent existing test classes. In addition, it implements test based validation, as well as test based benchmarks and performance measurements. For example, the 'Extensions and Variants of SUnit in VisualWorks' subsection (in the test chapter of doc/ToolsGuide.pdf) mentions the pattern for skipping tests. This is an example of using ClassifiedTestResult, which owes its inspiration to Assessments. In 7.9, the RBSUnitExtensions tool allows plugin of TestSuite subclasses, by doing RBSUnitExtension suiteClass: MyTestSuite. During 7.10, we expect to publish some examples of TestSuite subclasses (and TestResult subclasses referenced by them) in the OR so people can use the above to experiment, and maybe some in the community will also do so: thus we can find out what subclassing patterns may be best, so make any (very minor, purely refactoring) changes in the top-level framework that would help support them. You are right that SUnitToo(ls) gives better visual feedback than RBSUnitExtensions (having the SUnit2SU2-Bridge, so we can always use SUnitToo UI for SUnit tests just by loading it, has made me careless about porting these UI features - I will try to do that for the next release). By contrast, RBSUnitExtensions is a bit ahead when it comes to handling tests that are extensions in other packages (maybe those features will also get ported).

[Pharo-project] RPackage and Monticello are dependent on each other

Hi, we have small dependency problem. The RPackage is currently dependent on Monticello and Monticello is dependent on RPackage. This makes them unable to load them to Pharo Kernel. I suppose this will fix the worst: MCPackage organization renameCategory: '*RPackage-Core' toBe: '*RPackage-SystemIntegration'. I will open an issue. Cheers, -- Pavel

Hi Olivier, I've taken a look at the state of Artefact. Don't you think it would be much less work to port Christian Haider's work to Pharo? The namespace extensions to ring should be helpful to make two-way changes from both the VW and Pharo side. Stephan Eggermont
