Hi! I've done a little fix today that allows monticello tests to run -green btw- :). http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=6273 So, I expect this will put us 11 tests closer to a green build. This was a problem related with the monticello-mocks and monticellomocks packages. There are problems still remaining, like, as giving an example: - MCMock is categorized Monticello-Mocks, but is in the Monticello RPackage... That happens with all the classes in the Monticello-Mocks category. The root of the problem is that we have some strange objects installed as packages (PackageInfo registrations). Have a look at the result of: * PackageInfo named: 'Monticello-Mocks'.* Seems MC tests have side effects over the system. Guille

[Pharo-project] Putting Cairo in the VM?

Hi! Stef just told me an effort to package the Cairo lib with the VM (as it is in VisualWorks). This would be so great to see this happening. Is there a roadmap ? ok, now is working just fine. I've downloaded the latest CogVM, NB VM, and Pharo2.0 from Jenkins. Although i'm 100% sure i was using the downloaded vm's, i deleted the old vm's in my machine also, as Camilo suggested. Couldnt figure out why it wasnt working for me previously, but its fixed now! Hi Stef, surely is happening because the path to the Cairo Lib changed. It used to in the MacPorts path, but now Igor is shipping NB vm's with Cairo. So we should change the following method. To properly run the example, besides installing Athens you need to have Athens-SVG and XML Support. >can you think of any feature we could have now we couldn't with Git? With Squeaksource/Monticello I'm currently able to have a web based Smalltalk browser. So I dont have to fire up an image to digg into other peoples code. I expect that could be done with Git hosted projects too - but requires some work and another server providing the ST-IDE like feeling. So the "Smalltalk like user experience" is not available out of the box on the usual hosting services. This is a small step backward. One thing is a must: the usual handling of code should be preserved. As far as I understand this is the case even with an GIT-based MC!? Some questions: 1. Usually Git requires a local git installation. Is the Git-MC binding a pure ST solution working on all platforms or does it require some native support? 2. Can I setup an own local repo in a simple directory similar to Monticello or will it require some github stuff. 3. Will the local package cache still contain MCZ's? On the other hand hosting on file based versioning systems would make source code indexable for search engines and could raise Smalltalks place in the (stupid) TIOBE index ;) I could imagine both: file based repos (Git) as well as ST-only solutions as long as they work and reliable. At the end of the day it's nothing more than a different representation of code. An ST-only server side solution would at least allow for easy customization and allow the community to adapt the hosting to its needs. Bye T.
