broken setting in FFI
by Richard Wettel April 9, 2015

April 9, 2015

Hi I bumped into a broken setting in FFI (see attached Screenshot). After I exported the settings, every time I open an image a DNU comes to greet me: NBGlxAPI class>>moduleName: >From the implementation, it seems the setting does not make much sense. Or if it does to somebody, it is probably still missing some part. Cheers Ricky

About the singleton pattern
by Christophe Demarey April 9, 2015

April 9, 2015

Hi, We use quite often the singleton pattern but when I need to use one, I always need to ask myself "What is the selector to get this singleton?". We use either aClass>>current, aClass>>default or aClass>>uniqueInstance. Could we agree on the selector to use and update existing code? To get a quick overview, I searched about these methods in a Pharo4 image and get these results: ((SystemNavigation default allImplementorsOf: #default) select: #isMetaSide) size. "45" ((SystemNavigation default allImplementorsOf: #current) select: #isMetaSide) size. "40" ((SystemNavigation default allImplementorsOf: #uniqueInstance) select: #isMetaSide) size. "19" Your opinion? Christophe.

Spotter
by Ben Coman April 9, 2015

April 9, 2015

Just a note, I went back to an old image and really miss the Spotter workflow. One thing, can you remind me how when it shows 5/30 implementors I get a list of all 30? I'm sure I've done this before but can't remember. Perhaps this means its not obvious and maybe should appear in a "How To Use" section in the Release Notes. cheers -ben

14606 Really Important bug - Can't see some variables values while debugging closure
by Ben Coman April 9, 2015

April 9, 2015

Issue 14606 [1] is tagged "Really Important" where evaluating.... | t1 t2 t3 t4 t5 t6 | t1 := 1. t2 := 2. t3 := 3. t4 := 4. t5 := 5 . t6 := 6. [ t5 := 50. t6 := 60. t3 + t4. 1 halt. ] value => can't see the value of t4, t5, t6. I've just submitted a possible solution for this, but its a bit late before release for such a change - so I'm asking for "all hands in" to help stress test it. You don't need to review code, just please merge latest slice 14606 into your normal working image and report your experience. cheers -ben [1] https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?14606#124466

French speaking Pharo company
by François Stephany April 9, 2015

April 9, 2015

Hi there, I'm writing a proposal for a potential customer. Given the complex model, I'd like to implement the backend and webservice in Pharo (instead of Ruby on Rails). Is there any of you working in a service company doing Pharo Development for backends? The customer is french and might be more comfortable going with Pharo if he knows that there are backups in case we disappear. Cheers, Francois
