pharo home page tagline
by Ben Coman April 17, 2015

April 17, 2015

On reddit I see some questions regarding the "IDE and OS rolled into one" tagline on the pharo homepage. Of course it makes sense to me, but I can see how it might not be clear to others, who might even think "I don't need that, I already have an OS." I think the tagline would be strong enough without it - less is more. cheers -ben

Is Pharo Launcher Ready?
by Sean P. DeNigris April 17, 2015

April 17, 2015

IIUC we are planning on making Pharo Launcher the default download. Right now, our installation options are a bit scattered. The Ubuntu package installs Launcher, and the Mac and Windows buttons at http://pharo.org/download download image+VM zip files. Should we change the ppa to install an image+VM? Or should we change the Mac/Windows buttons to download Launcher installers? A possible reservation about the second option is that there was a recent report on this list of failed installation on Windows 8. Was that ever investigated? Once we converge on one process, I will update the other GNU/Linux distro instructions to mirror that. ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Is-Pharo-Launcher-Ready-tp4819384.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

GTSpotter and example previews
by Nicolai Hess April 17, 2015

April 17, 2015

Why is this in the release? GTSpotter now shows the result of gtExamples in the preview. This looks so ugly. (for example browse the "Examples" cateogry for GLMCompositeBrick) If new features aren't mentioned anywhere, it is pretty difficult to test or to review them.

New User Question on Reddit
by Sean P. DeNigris April 17, 2015

April 17, 2015

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9390760 I installed this for Ubuntu 12.04. When I fired it up, it requested I choose and build a source file (different from Pharo 3). Then when it started, it said, "Pharo cannot locate the source file named /usr/lib/pharo-vm/PharoV40.sources. Any ideas what to do? TIA, Steve ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/New-User-Question-on-Reddit-tp4820098.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Pharo-dev] Permission denied issue when moving Bloc to PharoExtras
by Guillermo Polito April 17, 2015

April 17, 2015

I see you're already there in the permission list. I think you should go to the monticello browser and add the pharo extras repository with your user and password. Then Gofer will be able to find your password to commit. Sorry I skipped that "detail" when giving you the scripts :/. Versioning Jenkins Logic
by Sean P. DeNigris April 17, 2015

April 17, 2015

Right now, the https://ci.inria.fr/pharo/view/4.0-VM/job/PharoVM-CentOs6 Jenkins job has the following shell script embedded in Jenkins. As you can see, there is quite a bit of logic there. Wouldn't it be better to put this type of thing under SCM? If so, I'm happy to do it, but where would be the best place? Is there an existing location that could fit? #!bash -lex cd "$WORKSPACE" # Set environment ============================================================ ZIP_FILTER='*' if [ "$OS" == "win" ]; then set -e # Stop the execution if a command fails!
