Manifest class values - instance or class side
by Kasper Osterbye May 19, 2015

May 19, 2015

It is unclear if literal values in Manifest classes should be on the instance side or on the class side. demarey wrote in the package comments thread on May 6th: "Data is stored in raw strings in methods (instance side) of the Manifest." However, when I look in the actual manifest classes, it seems like the manifest values (from the rule checker) are stored in the class side. In our work on package comments, we want to put the package comments in the manifest classes, but we are uncertain if it should be on the instance or class side. -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Manifest-class-values-instance-or-class-side-tp482644… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

[ANN] Garage 0.2 - GarageGlorp - GarageConnectionPool
by Guillermo Polito May 19, 2015

May 19, 2015

Hi all, little announcement here. Updated Glorp v1.11 ================ I updated/merged latest configurations of Glorp with latest changes fixing TimeStamps and similar. I have fully green test cases in Pharo 5. Latest version of the configuration is in Glorp's repository and copied to the corresponding MetaRepos. GarageGlorp v0.1 ============= A Garage extension to connect it to Glorp. All Glorp tests are green in Pharo3 and Pharo4. https://ci.inria.fr/dbxtalk/view/Garage-Glorp/ http://guillep.github.io/DBXTalk/glorp.html Garage 0.2 ======== Some patches on Garage 0.1 were required to make garage glorp work. - rows should be more polymorphic with arrays - added isResultSet telling if the result of a query has rows Garage Connection Pool v0.1 ====================== A connection pool package featuring - control of idle connections - control of maximum connections to create http://guillep.github.io/DBXTalk/garage/connection_pooling.html Cheers, Guille

FreeType fonts and underline/strikethrough emphasis
by Nicolai Hess May 19, 2015

May 19, 2015

Some questions: - Did this ever work ? - We have some code for drawing the underline/strikethrough, but it is only used for tree and listrenderer (and AFAIK only checks the first text entry element for the used emphasis) - setting the emphasis on LogicalFont is only propagated to the realfont if emphasis is bold or italic, others like underline and strikethrough are ignored with the comment: "we only handle bold and italic here since underline/strikeout are drawn separately" I don't want to move this display underline/strikethrough code into LogicalFont if it was removed on purpose. other ideas how to handle this? (see issue 15362 <https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?15362> No "underline" or "stroke out" emphasis on FT fonts) nicolai

New CogVMs available
by Eliot Miranda May 19, 2015

May 19, 2015

at http://www.mirandabanda.org/files/Cog/VM/VM.r3350/. CogVM binaries as per VMMaker.oscog-eem.1315/r3350 General: Make the bounds check in primitiveObject:perform:... more restrictive and fix bugs in the commentary. Make stack pages a reasonable size. My math was wrong and the size was half as big as intended. Extend the fastPrimTrace scheme to trace stack overflow, prim failure and prim retry to help debug the phantom stack frame bug in Cog Spur. Cogit: Fix old bug in ceMNUFromPICMNUMethod:receiver: that has been masked by cacheing of MNU method in MNU PIC entries. ceMNUFromPICMNUMethod:receiver: must set up lkupClass before calling handleMNU:... Revamp icache flushing in the Cogit for ARM. Move icache flush for generated methods/pics to the fillIn*Header: routines. Make sure the cache is flushed in generateCaptureCStackPointers:. Flush the entire PIC when extending it. Fix ARM-only regression in StackToRegisterMappingCogit's PIC aborts when the SimpleStackBasedCogit was fixed. Make ARM rotated 8bit constants actually be correct(er) ie 16r4000001 (SmallInteger 16r2000000) work. Spur: Fix ceActivateFailingPrimitiveMethod: to return properly after retrying a primitive after checkForAndFollowForwardedPrimitiveState. e.g. fixes | s | 1 to: 5 do: [:i| s := 'bar'. s becomeForward: 'bzzt' copy. 'foo' <= s] Fix bug in followForwardedFrameContents:stackPointer: so that arguments are actually followed. N.B. drives the above bug underground ;-). so that named constants (defines) are not elided. Make accessor depth calculation more accurate by not considering fetchInteger:ofObject: and arraySize: et al as object accessors. Newspeak: Remove landmine left from restructing implicit receiver and outer sends as clean sends. Slang: Do a more thorough job of transforming complex to:[by:]do: loops so that the limit expression is only evaluated once, not on each iteration of the loop. Make the read-before-written initializer safer, only initialzing simple types. Plugins: Regenerated because of changes in accessorDepth calculation, constant elimination, and read-before-use initialization. -- best, Eliot

[SURVEY] Pillar input/output files.
by Cyril Ferlicot May 18, 2015

May 18, 2015

Hi, I'm currently working on the way we manage the input files and the output files. The way we manage the files now makes hard some improvement of Pillar. That's why with Damien we though about makes some changes. The changes are big so I wanted to talk about that with you. We propose to have always 1 file with all the work inside. That can use the inputFile tag. For example: "${inputFile:Chapter1.pillar}$ ${inputFile:Chapter2.pillar}$ ${inputFile:Chapter3.pillar}$ ${inputFile:Chapter4.pillar}$" And the option "separateOutputFiles" will now create 1 file each time we have a new Chapter. (!Level 1 header). That will make simpler the way to number everything and to create anchor because those 2 doesn't work well with the "separateOutputFile" option. What do you thing? That would be good with you? -- Cheers Cyril Ferlicot
