New Cog VMs available
by Eliot Miranda May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

... at http://www.mirandabanda.org/files/Cog/VM/VM.r3354 CogVM binaries as per VMMaker.oscog-eem.1318/r3354 Cogit: Fix the performance regression on x86 in r3308 VMMaker.oscog-eem.1178 through the use of XCHG instruction in CogIA32Compiler>>genPushRegisterArgsForNumArgs:. Since SendNumArgsReg is not live with small arity sends it can replace TempReg. Spur: Fix bad C bug in nextInSortedFreeListLink:given:. The result type must be usqInt, otherwise the list can be wrongly terminated and the second compaction pass can segfault. Change printFreeChunk:isNextChunk: to printFreeChunk:printAsTreeNode:, and use it to implement printSortedFreeList. Firm up the checkTraversableSortedFreeList assert routine to check that the list is traversable from lastFreeChunk, not just firstFreeChunk. Make checkTraversableSortedFreeList robust in presence of empty sorted free list. Slang: Make promoteArithmeticTypes:and: obey C99's promotion rules more closely in an effort to generate more stable sources. Types were flipping between sqInt & usqInt for variables that were assigned both types, so that one generation would produce one type and a subsequent one another (Set/Dictionary hashing?). -- best, Eliot

[Review]: Issue 15567 - TxText Cleanup for Pharo 5.0 #4
by Sean P. DeNigris May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

I have a lot more work to do on Tx and I'd like to do it before we start using it in earnest, so if we could keep quickly reviewing and integrating these issues in particular, it would be very helpful. Thanks :) https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?15567 Fix in inbox: SLICE-Issue-15567-TxText-Cleanup-for-Pharo-50-4-SeanDeNigris.2 ### This version: - Update tests which were failing due to #selection -> #newSelection switch ### v. 1 #### Critics Browser - another pass, fix a bunch of rule violations #### TxModel - Move factory methods into a suitable protocol - Rename #cursor to #newCursor to be clear that it's not *the* cursor, but *a* cursor - Simplify selecting protocol - Only keep #newSelection, which captures the concept the best because this is a different concept than what we think of as "select all" i.e. an editor has only-one selection; here we can have any number of selections which live independently of the text - Remove other methods, which all did the same thing as the above - Remove unsent private methods #### Other - [ENH]: Clarify TxTextCursor comment ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Review-Issue-15567-TxText-Cleanup-for-Pharo-5-0-4-tp4… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Null Coalesce Operator?
by Aliaksei Syrel May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

Hi, Null coalesce operator - returns the first not nil operand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Null_coalescing_operator Adding one simple method to an Object: ?? anObject > ^ self and to UndefinedObject: ?? anObject > ^ anObject could allow us to write: > default1 := nil. > default2 := nil. > default3 := 'foo'. > default4 := 'don''t care'. > config := default1 ?? default2 ?? default3 ?? default4. => 'foo' I know you don't like to add new methods to an object, but still :)

Versionner: New version from current package versions?
by Sean P. DeNigris May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

Is there currently a way to say "create a new version of my project updating all packages to the current versions in the image"? It's pretty much like the cool new options Esteban introduced, but in the case where the underlying packages have already been saved. Thanks! ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Versionner-New-version-from-current-package-versions-… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

MongoTalk UpdateOperation and options. How to?
by phil＠highoctane.be May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

In MongoTalk, there is UpdateOperation. But I can't find how one can do an update with options. http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/method/db.collection.update/ I see Mongo>>update: origDictionary with: newDictionary collection: aString (UpdateOperation collection: aString id: self nextRequestID stream: stream originalObject: origDictionary newObject: newDictionary) write But there is no room for "options" I tried to do it with commands but wasn't able to figure out how. In MongoShell, db.runCommand({ "update":"Message", "query":{}, "updates": [{"$set": {"READ":true} }], "options": {"multi":true} }) gives me "missing q parameter" Anyone knowing how to do this? I've also done this code: | query what | query := { } asDictionary. what := { 'READ' -> true } asDictionary. Mapless currentRepository database beLogging. (Mapless currentRepository collection: Message) "<<- basically one gets a Mongoclient doing the updata:with:" update: query with: {'$set' -> what } asDictionary. Thanks for any help :-) Phil
