Why String do not implement #displayString?

Hi. According to the comment of #displayString it should be used as default textual representation of objects in the UI: "While printString is about to give a detailled information about an object, displayString is a message that should return a short string-based representation to be used by list and related UI frameworks. By default, simply return printString." "asString should not be implemented in Object, and kept for conversion between strings, symbols, text and characters." But String itself does not respect this message: 'some string' displayString " ==> '''someString''' " Is it bug? Or is there any reason for this? Best regards, Denis

Hi, The Pharo Monthly Newsletter is working quite well. https://newsletter.pharo.org <https://newsletter.pharo.org/> We now reached a level where it is not just 3 things, but much much more.. of course this comes with a downside: - Sometimes topics that would be worth a small article are just posted as a one-liners - I forget / overlook things for sure (so much happening!) If you want your (or some other project or topic) to be in the newsletter â> send me a mail, in the best of all cases with a fully written text that you want to have posted. This includes: - new libraries and projects - dates - high level description of existing projects - videos - Blog posts - books - lectures - Success Stories of all kinds (nice to present your Company!) - Research (e.g. published papers or project descriptions) - Expanded versions of news posted as one-liners before - â¦. help wanted: normalising LF on tonel for Pharo project

Hi, Iâve been wondering how to better fix the problem of having windows and linux/macOS people contributing and the fact that files are written in their native system format (crlf windows, lf for the rest of the world). I digged a bit and I found a couple a link that helped me (after trying to understand the doc): https://stackoverflow.com/questions/170961/whats-the-best-crlf-carriage-ret… <https://stackoverflow.com/questions/170961/whats-the-best-crlf-carriage-ret…> and it seems adding a .gitattributes file with this content: # Auto detect text files and perform LF normalization * text=auto *.st text merge=union eol=lf could fix the problem? can someone confirm this? Hi, I tried to create a pull request with IceBerg. I followed the CONTRIBUTING HowTo and Markus' create TechTalk-Video. But I must have done something wrong. This is my pull request: https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/pull/1189 But although I just changes one line in one method. The gitub pull request side shows Commit 1 Files changed 40! But I did not change 40 files And I still have problems viewing pull requests from within pharo: I thought this would work meanwhil. Thanks in advance nicolai

Hi, yesterday someone posted an article on HN about the Pharo MOOC and there has been some negative posts there. Hi, As we can not very easily decide if we are inside a test execution or not there was the idea to have special #halt messages https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/20151/new-halt-messages <https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/20151/new-halt-messages> This PR implements them: https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/pull/1177 <https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/pull/1177> There is now #haltIfInsideTest and #haltfOutsideTest. In addition, the PR adds a helper method to make checking if the current execution environment is a test run a bit easier: "CurrentExecutionEnvironment value isTestâ. Marcus
