I thought I was starting to get a grip on how finalization work. I made this example... Object subclass: #MyObject instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' package: 'Play' MyObject>>autoRelease ^ self class finalizationRegistry add: self MyObject>>finalize Transcript crShow: 'Finalizing MyObject' o := MyObject new autoRelease. o := nil. Smalltalk garbageCollect. ==> 'Finalizing MyObject' So far so good. Extrapolating... I would *expect* this... oc := OrderedCollection new. 10 timesRepeat: [ oc add: Libclang getClangVersion ]. oc removeAll. oc := nil. Smalltalk garbageCollect. ...to print 'Finalizing MyObject' ten times, but it does nothing!! Such a simple example feeds my naive presumption that the system seems broken. So could someone help me interpret this result ? cheers -ben

Can Sound depend on Jobs?

Copying/Duplicating a class also duplicates pool dictionaries

Just bumped into a curious thing. I went copy a class with a pool dictionary... FFIExternalStructure subclass: #CXString instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: 'CXStringFlag' package: 'Libclang' and it asked me for the new name, to which I dutifully entered 'CXString2' after which I was asked... "CXString2Flag does not exist. Do you want it automatically created?" Choosing "No" fails the CXString copy since CXString2Flag does not exist. Choosing "Yes" produces... FFIExternalStructure subclass: #CXString2 instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: 'CXString2Flag' package: 'Libclang' So I'm curious what the reasoning is for making a parallel copy of the pool dictionary? And btw, CXString2Flag gets created in the "Unclassified" package and fails to copy the methods from the original. cheers -ben

Catalog broken

Hi, I released new version of Seamless 0.9.0. It is based on specialized TostSerializer instead of Fuel. This version is ~4 times faster than previous one and produce much compact data packets. For example Fuel based version takes 400 bytes to return small integer as result of message send. Now it is just 21 bytes. Pharo 5 and 6 are supported.

Please fix. most probably is because you do not have a correct config, which means: a baseline (even if not used), a version and a symbolic version #stable. Esteban

Remember opened images in Pharo.app on crash?

Hi. Is it possible to remember the opened images (files) in the Pharo app? My use case is that I open an image and then I work in it, and I do something. And then I attend a talk, and download another image and try something out. And then I have to do a demo (in a fresh image). And then it turns out that I have some bug in my project, so I download a new image and fix it. And them Iâm working on a new feature. And when I finish with a new feature I recall that I have this first image with a nice idea, and I go back to it and work a bit more, and it looks good, and then my mac crashes. All images are gone, Epicea does good job on recovering lost changes, but I donât know in which image it wasâ¦ I started to think that other Mac apps open all the files/whatever in the state you left them. Would it be hard to make Pharo.app to memorize the opened images and launch them after crash? Uko
