Hi, I have a test case like that: -=-=- testIncrementBy prefix := MyObject new numbers: #(1 10); yourself. prefix incrementBy: 10. self assert: prefix numbers equals: #(1 20). -=-=- and the byte code starts like that: -=-=- 57 <40> pushLit: MyObject 58 <CC> send: new 59 <88> dup 60 <21> pushConstant: #(1 10) -=-=- If I run the test case, it is green, but the byte code changes into: -=-=- 57 <40> pushLit: MyObject 58 <CC> send: new 59 <88> dup 60 <21> pushConstant: #(1 20) -=-=- The #incrementBy: method looks like: -=-=- incrementBy: aNumber numbers at: 2 put: (numbers at: 2) + aNumber -=-=- Is it correct that it also changes the method byte code? I can put "#(1 10) copyâ into the test case. I am just curious if it is a feature or bug. Tested in Pharo4.0, Latest update: #40613. Cheers, Juraj

Hi Yuriy, Another thing I cannot see in the documentation is about ban. To me is really important how is persisted the banning. How do you prevent the banning from being lost when I take a new image? Can I export bans to fuel and re import in another image? Some time ago when there was the manifiesto classes, the banning was stored there, and so such class could be stored in monticello as part of your code, which was a nice idea. But at the same time, it's hard to keep a banning since you refactor... so..that's another question..do you do something with banning upon certain refactors? Thanks! UUID for the Session?

Hi, Iâve noticed that there is a Session class, which is meant to be used as a unique identifier of an image session. Is it possible to obtain some king of identifier of it? I.e. if I want to compare some data associated with session outside of the image. If not, maybe we can simply create a new UUID in Session>>initialize and store it in an ivar? Cheers! Uko

Catalog does not update to include MessageFlowBrowser

Hi, ConfigurationOfMessageFlowBrowser is in http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~Pharo/MetaRepoForPharo50 for a week now but still not included in http://catalog.pharo.org According to the description there is a daily catalog job - but so far no results. It is not included although the config includes the necessary catalog methods. - Is MetaRepoForPharo50 already recognized? - Is it possible to "manually" trigger the catalog generation in case a new project is done? Anyone able to look into this? Thx T.

"missing" exports on the windows vm

We have a failing test case for NB NBInterpreterProxyTest>>#testStackPointer it fails because NativeBoost loadSymbol: 'stackPointerAddress' fromModule: NativeBoost VMModule returns nil This works for the linux vm! There are other methods that can be loaded, for example: (NativeBoost loadSymbol: 'primitiveAllObjects' fromModule: NativeBoost VMModule) -> returns an address. This stopped working for the windows pharo vm around june 2014. The source that changed is cointerp.h, the prior version had EXPORT(...) declarations around all functions in cointerp.h, the current version not. Three questions: 1. Why does this still work on linux? Does it export all functions declared in a header? 2. why was it changed? (I could not found the change in the code generator, maybe we exported all functions with pragma #api and now only those with pragma #export ? 3. do we need this function to be exported? Apart from this testcases, this method is called the on image startup, but the nil return does not harm. It seems it is not part of the main vm api (like the interpreter proxy functions callable from external modules) and I didn't see code thet depend on this. There are similiar functions for which we load the function address on startup: cStackPointerAddress and cFramePointerAddress, this seems to work, but I don't know if the expected result is different. In NBInterpreterProxy>>#initialize, we try to load all fourmethods: stackPointerAddress/framePointerAddress -> nil cStackPointerAddress / cFramePointerAddress -> not nil nicolai

Pillar 2.0.0: Introduction of PetitPillar

Hi everyone! Yes, a new version of Pillar, again! With this version we removed the old parser of Pillar to introduce PetitPillar base on PetitParser. This parser is slower than the previous one but we will be able to improve his speed. We will also be able to improve Pillar at the parser level, which was impossible before. So we will be able to remove some hacks and improve the experience of the users. If you are good in parser and you want to contribute to his improvement, feel free to help, we have a lot of tests to help. This is my first parser so I am sure it have a lot of rooms for improvement. -- Cheers Cyril

Hi Cyril, You are right. Itâs better to just fix the version of Pillar for Pier and that works just fine for me now. Before, a figure was a link with embedded = true. This was silly because each visitor had to do something specific for figures (e.g., in html you want a <img>, in latex you want \includegraphics). This is totally different from what is expected of a link. Now a figure is not a link anymore, it is a reference. There can be multiple kinds of references but the embedded parameter what not of any use for Pillar anymore. So we decided to remove it, knowing that Pier used it to embed Pier components. So, Pier users have 2 solutions now: - either adapt Pier's configuration so that it uses an old version of Pillar; - or adapt Pier's code to rely on the new Pillar. I saw some interesting reflection progress in Pharo 5. I wonder if there is a feature to rank instance variables. For example, from the browser I want to assign a category "important" to an instance variable, or "possibly useless", etc. for later refactorings. Is such thing "easily" possible now? Hi, as NautilusMethodSelected contains also an information about protocol, class, package; NautilusProtocolSelected contains an information about class and package; . . . Iâve inherited NautilusClassSelected from NautilusPackageSelected and NautilusProtocolSelected from NautilusClassSelectedâ¦ to remove duplication. But as announcement subscription also includes itâs subclasses, if you subscribe to NautilusPackageSelected, you end up receiving also NautilusClassSelected, NautilusProtocolSelected and NautilusMethodSelected. What is a good way to resolve this (I can simply separate all the classes, but maybe there is something important from conceptual point of view)? Uko

Now it seems that #allSystemPragmas might fit nicely on Pragma rather than PragmaCollector such that the following should be equivalent... Hi! I can run a test method by pressing the button located on the left hand side of the method name. If the test fail, it does not open a debugger. I need to run it a second time. This is a rather odd behavior. Am I the only one to experience this? Side question: I try to check on the bug tracker if there is something about that, but I was not able to find it. Hi, in Pharo5 #120 we have lots of progress with Reflectivity regarding to âreificated valuesâ. 1) more reificated value are working. #arguments - an array of the arguments of a message send or method #receiver - receiver of a message (or method executed) #context for Methods #sender for method and message This means we have now all the info needed to e.g. pass all date needed to do a message send on the meta level. (receiver, args, selector), or a variable store (#name, #newValue). 2) Reifications as arguments to conditions. When the block used as a condition has arguments, the name is matched to the possible reifications and if valid this value is passed as an argument. Very useful e.g. for object specific links: link := MetaLink new condition: [: object | object == <the object I am intersted in>]; metaObject: <someObject>; selector: <some selector> This link would only be active for this one object. 3) Reifications as meta object ------------- Every valid reified value can be the metaobject of the link. e.g. you can now define a link where the meta is the node where the Link is installed: link := MetaLink new metaObject: #node; selector: #tagHasBeenExecuted. Or the #receiver: link := MetaLink new metaObject: #receiver; selector: #perform:withArguments:; arguments: #(selector arguments). TODO -> #slot, #global. #variable reifications -> #after needs to wrap in ensure: -> primitives -> more tests -> optimize link preambles: when reifying both #arguments and #receiver, merge the preamble into one for performance.

Dynamical resizing of a Nautilus Plugin

Hi, is it possible to dynamically resize (or add/remove) plugin in nautilus? It seems that plugins are added during build (AbstractNautilusUI>>addAll:), however is it possible to do at morphic level? Because if I resize the morph of the plugin the parent will have empty space; so probably I would have to move all the morphs underneath it, but I am not knowledgeable enough of Morphic. Since I can freely resize by hand the code pane area I think it should be possible, but I am lost. :/ Thanks, Peter

Hi, Iâm trying to move QualityAssistant to FastTable and I really like it. Now as you may have noticed, you cannot select a list item in the QA plugin, but you can click on it to get the issue highlighted (if the rule allows). How can I mimic this with FT? Should I create a subclass of FTSelectionStrategy and redefine #selectRowIndex:event: not to do anything and just announce that there was a click on a list item? Or is there a better way? Uko

Hi, I created a job to automatically generate a report of the Pharo image dependencies as well as current bootstrap dependencies. You can find them here: https://ci.inria.fr/pharo/job/Pharo-5.0-DependencyAnalysis/Dependencies_HTM… https://ci.inria.fr/pharo/job/Pharo-5.0-DependencyAnalysis/Dependencies_HTM… There are a lot (too many) dependencies but you can focus on some of them with the search field. Dependencies inside orange boxes are dependencies that are there but that we ignore (for example, an example method adds an extra-dependency). It should be fixed later but is not a problem for now. Ignored dependencies are declared in the package manifest in #ignoredDependencies. Dependencies inside red boxes are dependencies we want to remove for the bootstrap. For now, they are listed in the bootstrap dependency report. People that are willing to help to have a more modular Pharo could first take a look at the bootstrap dependency report and check dependencies that we should cut. Once we know, we can open issues on fogbugz in the 'bootstrap category' and update manifests accordingly. To investigate more deeply dependencies, you can use the DependencyAnalyzer (in the Pharo Catalog) to actually check dependencies (inheritance, reference, extension, traits, message send). FreeType hinting: any way to get a grayscale version for the subpixel rendering?

Is there a way to hint without having the subpixels rendered with the RGB artifacts? Just getting grayscale for the font? I ask because it is getting disturbing for me with larger fonts. I saw some monoHinting in FreeTypeSettings but there doesn't seem a way to set that up. TIA Phil

[ANN] new catalog command line handler

Hi, This functionality is in fact in Pharo 5 since a couple of months (I added it during ESUG), but I forget to send the ANN, then probably people does not know it and then is not using it. This is a catalog command line handler to prepare your images from command line. For example, if I want an image with Seaside3: ./pharo Pharo.image get Seaside3 or if you want a version: ./pharo Pharo.image get Seaside3 âversion=3.1.2 since this tool is part of catalog, just catalog projects are availableâ¦ but I find it very useful for prepare my images (and a lot less verbose than the config command line who is still available for non-catalog projects) cheers, Esteban
