Yet another Athens font thread

Hi I noticed that if I force use "Source Code Pro" as standard font for all elements in the image I never have problems with font rendering. In case of "Source Sans Pro" font is just not usable becasue of rendering bugs on mac, windows and linux(?). If "Lucida Sans Pro" is used - no bugs too. Because bug is reproducable on all platform - it's platform independent bug. Because it's reproducable only with one specific font - maybe it's not an athens issue but bug in font itself and if someone could change/update Source Sans Pro to a newly version or to a similar font the problem will be solved? I pushed some Aconcagua extensions to http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/SeanDeNigris/AconcaguaAddOns/main/ One part consists of tiny (so far) Aconcagua models of various domains - Time*, Money, and Weight at the moment. The other is the Aconcagua-Magritte package. This gives you MAMeasureDescription, which represents an Aconcagua Measure. It mostly acts like a number field mapped to its amount. You just have to tell it which unit to use to convert the amount number into a Measure. Example usage: MAMeasureDescription new accessor: #replacementPrice; label: 'Replacement Price'; unit: AmDollar new; yourself Then, you can type 100 in a Magritte form and "100 dollars" will be saved to the model. ARM Cogit

Hi All, thanks to hard work by Tim Rowledge and Lars Wasserman we now have a functional JIT for the ARM in the simulator. We're still probably some weeks away from a functional ARM JIT VM; issues like instruction cache flushing on real hardware can be tricky to solve. But we're at least ready to start trying to compile the JIT VM for ARM. Doug, see that I added a build directory for build.linux32ARM/squeak.cog.spur. Hopefully a fast VM for Raspberry Pi and Android is only a few weeks away. -- best, Eliot

Mongo - find object by id

Hi, on mongo console, this brings me a persons information from mongo db db.Persons.find({"_id" : ObjectId("75b900000000000000000000")}) I try to query the same person from pharo and I do not succeed. This makes my image hanging: RKAPerson selectMany: {('_id' -> (OID value:'75b900000000000000000000'))} also other variations e.g. RKAPerson selectMany: {('_id' -> ('75b900000000000000000000')). } asDictionary. do not work Other queries like RKAPerson selectMany:{('lastName' -> ('Maier')).} asDictionary. or RKAPerson selectMany:{('nextTripNumber' -> (57)).} asDictionary. work fine. How can I query for an object with the object id? Hi, Review needed for https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/16074/Is-RBClassNotReferencedRule-200x-sl… Speedup can be checked with: rule:=RBClassNotReferencedRule new. environment:=RBBrowserEnvironment new forPackageNames: #('Fuel'). [RBSmalllintChecker runRule: rule onEnvironment: environment] timeToRun Pharo5: "0:00:00:13.526" Pharo5 with fix: "0:00:00:00.761" Pharo3: 0:00:00:00.547 Checking all classes for usage: [Smalltalk allClassesAndTraits select: [ : each | each isUsed not]] timeToRun still takes 1:40 to find 600 unused classes. This shows that adding a cache for âreferenced classesâ per environment would speed this up further. But it should be general, not just for RB or even RB Code Critique. The nice things is that code environments only change when you add classes or methods, so adding a very general cache should be quite possible. Another thing we should add is a way for classes to define âI am usedâ. E.g this now finds all Configurations, all the Manifests and all cases like the RB Rules themselves. All these should know that they are not useless even though there are no references. Marcus

"missing" exports on the windows vm

We have a failing test case for NB NBInterpreterProxyTest>>#testStackPointer it fails because NativeBoost loadSymbol: 'stackPointerAddress' fromModule: NativeBoost VMModule returns nil This works for the linux vm! There are other methods that can be loaded, for example: (NativeBoost loadSymbol: 'primitiveAllObjects' fromModule: NativeBoost VMModule) -> returns an address. This stopped working for the windows pharo vm around june 2014. The source that changed is cointerp.h, the prior version had EXPORT(...) declarations around all functions in cointerp.h, the current version not. Three questions: 1. Why does this still work on linux? Does it export all functions declared in a header? 2. why was it changed? (I could not found the change in the code generator, maybe we exported all functions with pragma #api and now only those with pragma #export ? 3. do we need this function to be exported? Apart from this testcases, this method is called the on image startup, but the nil return does not harm. It seems it is not part of the main vm api (like the interpreter proxy functions callable from external modules) and I didn't see code thet depend on this. There are similiar functions for which we load the function address on startup: cStackPointerAddress and cFramePointerAddress, this seems to work, but I don't know if the expected result is different. In NBInterpreterProxy>>#initialize, we try to load all fourmethods: stackPointerAddress/framePointerAddress -> nil cStackPointerAddress / cFramePointerAddress -> not nil nicolai

Hi, in Pharo5 #120 we have lots of progress with Reflectivity regarding to âreificated valuesâ. 1) more reificated value are working. #arguments - an array of the arguments of a message send or method #receiver - receiver of a message (or method executed) #context for Methods #sender for method and message This means we have now all the info needed to e.g. pass all date needed to do a message send on the meta level. (receiver, args, selector), or a variable store (#name, #newValue). 2) Reifications as arguments to conditions. When the block used as a condition has arguments, the name is matched to the possible reifications and if valid this value is passed as an argument. Very useful e.g. for object specific links: link := MetaLink new condition: [: object | object == <the object I am intersted in>]; metaObject: <someObject>; selector: <some selector> This link would only be active for this one object. 3) Reifications as meta object ------------- Every valid reified value can be the metaobject of the link. e.g. you can now define a link where the meta is the node where the Link is installed: link := MetaLink new metaObject: #node; selector: #tagHasBeenExecuted. Or the #receiver: link := MetaLink new metaObject: #receiver; selector: #perform:withArguments:; arguments: #(selector arguments). TODO -> #slot, #global. #variable reifications -> #after needs to wrap in ensure: -> primitives -> more tests -> optimize link preambles: when reifying both #arguments and #receiver, merge the preamble into one for performance.

merging in a filetree repository

Hi! Do I still need to press the merge button in Monticello when I am working on a filtree git repository? I understand that no since the merging has to be done by Git, and not by monticello. I tried to not do the merge in monticello, but I get some conflicts when doing the git merge. For example: CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in Hackathon.package/monticello.meta/version CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in Hackathon.package/HProject.class/methodProperties.json CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in Hackathon.package/HClass.class/methodProperties.json Why do we need this methodProperties.json and version files? Shouldnât git handle this? How should I merge these files? Any experience?
