Dear all, i just downloaded Pharo 3.0 and installed Roassal2 via Configuration Manager (Stable Version). When trying the "Roassal examples" (from Tool-Menu) i got an red screen. Platform Ubuntu 14.04LTS Pharo3.0 Latest update: #30846 Need some help :-) BW, Volkert

DBXTalk continued

There were some success reports using DBXTalk in pharo 3.0. Sadly Iâm not that lucky to get it running properly. I loaded the latest version from smalltalkhub. I exchanged the version reference for TalkFFI to 1.4 (tested 1.5 as well no difference). I loaded bleddingEdge and did afterwards NBPharoOpenDBX installAsCurrent Running the tests I 118 run, 50 passes, 68 errors but the number changes when running the suite more often. There is a sporadic error âLost connection during queryâ which occurrs randomly thus the changing number in error fails. And the tests are trying to test more backends. I can see errors on the console saying that libraries cannot be found. I donât know yet if this influences the tests as well. The described scenario is running on an ubuntu 13.04 in virtualbox with a fresh 3.0 image. I was trying to install it on my Mac laptop but had too much problems convincing homebrew to build opendbx as 32 bit lib. So I thought it would be less pain to do it on linux which will be the deployment platform anyway. Has anybody seen similar problems. Or can any linux user tell me what library versions are used in the success case? thanks, Norbert

Verifying Ubuntu downloads

After heartbleed, I've become more security-conscious/paranoid than usual. Here's a little snippet that compares a downloaded Ubuntu iso file to the MD5 provided via SSL by Ubuntu. Not foolproof, but more peace of mind than crossing fingers and hoping for the best on the unsecured http mirrors... [ANN] Mapless a small framework for storing objects in a key->data fashion with no friction

Mapless Mapless is a small framework for storing objects in a key->data fashion (i.e.: noSQL databases) without requiring any kind of object-data map. So far only MongoDB is supported. It can use Redis for reactivity (pub/sub) and cache. Motivation I wanted to persist objects with extremely low friction and extremely low maintenanceand great scaling and availability capabilities so Mapless is totally biased towards that. This framework is what I came up with after incorporating my experience withAggregate. Usage of should: in tests

Hi, I see many usage of #should: in SciSmalltalk tests that could simply be turned into #assert: or eventually #assert:equals: Why wanting to use a block? Other than #should:raise: and #shouldnt:raise:, I don't really see the point of #should: alone anyway... IMO should: should be deprecated, less is more. I'm possibly the author of several of these #should: sends, so don't take it personnally ;) P.S. or is it easier to restart the block in the Debugger? I cross post to pharo-dev because it's a generic question, and there are a few #should: sends in Pharo-3.0 too.
