I've been struggling to get the whole thing to work in Pharo 2.0 So, here are some pointers: I am using Xcode 4.6.3 with command line tools installed. I used the MySQL 32-bit client: mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86.dmg I used opendbx stable-1.4 To compile OpenDBX itself in 32 bits mode and all, here is the script I used. [PhilMac:~/Documents/Smalltalk/2-MyWorkspaces/workspaceOpenDbx philippeback$] cat compileopendbxosx.sh PATH=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin:${PATH} echo `which ld` CPPFLAGS="-m32 -I/usr/local/mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86/include" \ CXXFLAGS="-m32 -I/usr/local/mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86/include" \ CFLAGS="-m32 -I/usr/local/mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86/include" \ LDFLAGS="-m32 -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86/lib -lmysqlclient" \ ./configure --with-backends="mysql" --disable-utils LDFLAGS="-m32 -L/usr/local/mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86/lib" make make install Now, I had to copy the libraries of the mysql client into /usr/local/lib/ The client libraries were in /usr/local/mysql-connector-c-6.1.0-osx10.7-x86/lib (you can ln -s them if you do not want to copy). To test that things were okay, I created the sodbxtest user, database, and all in MySQL. Then let's make sure we can use that one: mysql -usodbxtest -psodbxtest sodbxtest And then went to stable-1.4/test and issued: ./odbxtest -b mysql -h localhost -p 3306 -d sodbxtest -u sodbxtest -w sodbxtest Which should work. You can open the MySQL Workbench Admin tab > server status tab and see the commands issued. I had to do a symlink in: : /usr/local/pharo/bin/pharo-vm/Pharo.app/Contents/MacOS/Plugins/ (where I have my pharo vm installed) so that: libopendbx.dylib was pointing to /usr/local/lib/libopendbx.dylib Then, start the image where you have loaded the OpenDBXDriver configuration and run the tests. You can get the configuration from the World menu > Configurations OpenDBXDriver (GuillermoPolito.20) I installed the configuration and then did: (ConfigurationOfOpenDBXDriver project version: #stable) load. All tests for the MySQL backend turned up green. Maybe someone can put the above things in the right sections on the DBXTalk site, I didn't got enough info for the OSX version. Next step is to try to get GLORP running, not sure I'll go that route. Phil

Stepping through with GLORP Proxies

Does anybody else have issues while stepping through GLORP Proxy objects (collections in this case)? I simply can't use this feature unless the proxied collection was already materialized. I can't reproduce it right now, but it bites me everytime is step through blocks, because stepping into is really annoying :) Does anybody else have the same issue? This is Pharo 2. Esteban A. In 4.0, imagine this killer combination: - Declare high-level logical categories a la AltBrowser (e.g. UI). This really nails the 7+/-2 sweet spot - For external projects, query the Metacello configurations to find out exactly what packages belong to which project and group accordingly; they could also declare AltBrowser categories But until then, I think this is already an improvement: The screenshot is of two overlapping Nautilus browsers. The one on the left is the current implementation. The one on the right adds top-level categories. The key thing to notice is the scroll bar: almost 10 pages to deal with currently vs. 3-4 with top level categories. Notice also that the icons make it clear what is an actual package. The other important thing to remember is that power users are most likely going to use Spotlight or the filter bar. This is really more for exploration and education. Cheers, Sean

[Spec] whenSelectedItemsChanged: on TreeModel

Hi, I am experiencing problems with #whenSelectedItemsChanged: on a TreeModel. In particular, the block (i.e., argument of #whenSelectedItemsChanged: gets randomly executed a couple of times (3/4) the second time that the selection happens. The first time is fine. It looks like the registration of the âeventâ or âannouncementâ is done multiple times. Any hint? Cheers, R

Smalltalkhub is exposing private information

iPad version does not work ?

Hi list, Does anyone try to load Pharoon iPad ? In the past, the version 1.4 worked with XCode 4.4. I just tried to recompile it with the new XCode (5.0.2). SWIG for Native Boost FFI

I started working on extending SWIG to generate bindings for NativeBoost FFI, using as a reference the C# binding generator. I am committing my work on this into https://github.com/ronsaldo/swig/ . It works by creating a C side code and Smalltalk that can be filed-in in a image, which contains a class with all the NativeBoost-FFI callouts, a class for the global module, classes for each C++ class and SWIGTYPE_* classes for opaque types or types that SWIG couldn't wrap. It currently can generate bindings for C/C++ functions, constants, define based constants, opaque structures, methods, enums, and for C++ classes, nested classes, member methods, member fields, member constants, member static functions, variables and constants. The overloaded functions support currently is not so great, since I am currently using the arguments name to build the selector. I have to still decide a better strategy for the overloaded methods. WARNING: automatic garbage collection of the C++ classes is not yet ready, but it will be soon. Downcasting of C++ objects is also not supported yet. Greetings Ronie Salgado
