Hi, I'm just starting an internship for 3 months and we were talking about the scope for my time here. This is a summary of what we have discussed: The main objective it's to improve the AST and use it to implement as many improvements and refactors/transformations as we can to help the programmer. Some ideas: - distinguish the code scope (for example, when you have lot of blocks all together when you pass over with the mouse that it get special something to understand where you are) - make suggestions depending on what you have selected. Example if it's a variable rename it, or find accesses (...) - highlight selectors - implements some rules to help code improvement, for example if you select some part of the code and it's repeated you can do an: extract method, or extract to variable transformation. - improve the navigation between static code - review the refactoring API and evaluate a change for admitting AST nodes and avoid the use of strings... Please let me know your thoughts about it and if you have more ideas, they are always welcome.

Hmm, Just finished uploading one hour of Pharo Roadmap. Should be visible on youtube soon. Next: Diego's Data Migration with Moose (still rendering, could arrive somewhere late this night). I'll let my machine render and upload a few parts more. Fixing & cleaning is for later. They should take half a day each or so. I know a lot of Pharo people, but not all. Last tuesday I presented the new zeroconf scripts for Pharo at the pharoconf in Bern. >From now on please use the new scripts located at http://get.pharo.org. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example: ======== The scripts work the same way as before: Load the stable Pharo version with a VM: wget -qO - get.pharo.org | bash Load Pharo 3.0 with a VM: wget -qO - get.pharo.org/30+vm | bash Load only a Pharo 3.0 image: wget -qO - get.pharo.org/30 | bash If you do not have wget installed you can use `curl -L` instead of `wget -qO -`. => All the jobs at http://ci.inria.fr/rmod already use the new scripts Details: ======== There is a plethora of configurations available. The URL for each script can be easily build from an image version and a vm: get.pharo.org/$IMAGE +$VM Of course one can just download an image as well get.pharo.org/$IMAGE or just the VM get.pharo.org/$VM Possible values for $IMAGE are: 12 13 14 20 30 stable alpha Possible values for $VM are: vm vmS vmLatest vmSLatest vmS and vmSLatest are not yet supported, but they will point to the PharoS aka StackVM in the future. Help: ===== I will update the zeroconf chapter tomorrow, otherwise you can simply open the url of the config script in the browser to get a help message that explains you how to use the script and what it downloads. Hi all, We are happy to announce Fuel 1.9. Fuel is an open-source general-purpose object serialization framework developed in Pharo. You can find more information on our website [1]. The default set of packages of this version already comes in Pharo 2.0, so you it's not necessary to install it there. However, Fuel also works out-of-the-box in Pharo from 1.1 up to 2.0, as well as in Squeak 4.1 up to 4.4. You can see our documentation [2] for complete installation and use guides. Changes: - (feature) DoIt and not-installed CompiledMethods are fully serialized by default. - (fix) Date & DateAndTime (thanks Cami and Marcus) (already included in Fuel 1.8.1 and 1.8.2). - (feature) New hooks methods #fuelNew and #fuelNew: for custom instantiation (see "Hooking instance creation" in Customizing the Graph). - Globals: - Added #globalEnvironment: to specify where the globals are looked-up. Dear Pharo mailinglist, I would like to apologize for the rather unfriendly and loud mail I sent in response to a bugfix proposal by Igor on the mailing list. Luckily I listened to Esteban to prevent further damage. However my intervention was rude and inappropriate. You experienced an unnecessary presentation of an internal discussion that is not solved yet. Discussing and presenting it in public is counter productive and insulting. Hi, I'm getting crazy about obsolete behaviors and any help here is really appreciated. In a nutshell, I have a Dictionary (containing receivers of method calls, i.e., classes) that I need to serialize in a file (i.e., using Fuel). Fuel returns an error in FLGlobalClassCluster>>#serializeGlobalClass:on: complaining that I'm trying to serialize an obsolete class. Now my question is, apart from executing this small piece of code... SmalltalkImage current fixObsoleteReferences. SystemNavigation new obsoleteBehaviors size > 0 ifTrue: [ SystemNavigation new obsoleteBehaviors inspect.] â¦in which I discovered to have many obsolete references, how can I "browse" and eventually kill such references? For me the entire "behavior" of obsolete classes is obscure and I don't know how those classes are originated. More important, I also don't know how to eliminate them. Thanks in advance, Roberto
